Still, this place was boring her, and the fawning attentions of some of the men she found disgusting. There really wasn't anything too new or advanced this show and she knew it. Some companies had actually done no more than 'repackage' some old products to make them look new. At least she had a few actually new inventions at her place, especially dealing with mutants and such. She felt her company had gotten a jump on most of their competition in that area.
It was usually his custom to visit a few of these conferences a year. Just to keep up to date on things in the field of weaponry. These people never had anything new or exciting to offer. Or did they? Ronan smiled a little as he approached the young woman from Ormand Industries. What an intriguing (not to mention dangerous) ability she had.
“Hello, ma’am.” He greeted (adopting a general American accent) the fellow mutant, who looked extremely professional and slightly bored. “You don‘t have anything new either, do you?“ He could tell she was the one in charge, even though the others around her acted differently. He gave her a charming smile, “Beauregard Lewis.” He’d come up with the name instantly, but he sounded flawless as he delivered it, and offered his hand politely.
Evelyn turned to meet this new addition to the throbbing masses. She couldn't help the smile at his words, the brazenness of his announcement of the reality of this gathering. A few nearby competitors grumbled. "I wouldn't say that." She said smoothly. "We do have one or two new items that might be of interest depending on your needs, Mr. Lewis." They had far more than that on display but most of the items were just a showing of their more popular items. She reached her hand for him. "Evelyn Ormand." He was nice to look at, so she offered. "Would you like for me to show you?"
“Pleased to meet you, Miss Ormand.” Ronan smiled, shaking her hand in a quick and professional manner. If it were anyone else he would have gone on his way, but this woman interested him. “That would be wonderful.” He stepped back from the table, to get a better view of everything on the tables, and to allow Evelyn to join him in looking.
"As you can see, and have probably already have noticed, most of the items here are old news. Just some of our more popular items." She led him over to one side of the table. "However, unlike our competitors, we have had the foresight to create some mutant related items: detectors and suppressors and such. Proper suppressors, ones that are not just some variation of a powerful sedative are still in the works, but we believe we are close to success." She knew companies would get to working on these things and wanted her company to have the jump, get the contracts. It kept her company in the forefront and anything her people created, she had the way to counter it, keeping her safe.
Ronan followed Evelyn and he voiced his agreement to what she was saying. He restrained smirk when she mentioned mutant detectors. She was talking to a living mutant detector and wasn't even aware of it. And he didn't intend on making it known to her (this soon anyhow). "Do you design some of these yourself?" he asked, picking up one of the objects on the table and examining it. He set it back down and turned his gaze back onto the exotic looking woman.
She did have a good deal of input but instead she shook her head. "That is what scientists and research and development are for. I just get the final say in what projects are cut or allowed to continue." she answered demurely. "A good business person knows what she can trust her people to do." And she did know exactly how far she could trust most all of her higher up employees in sensitive areas. She wasn't too worried about him handling the merchandise. She had taken precautions to make sure she didn't show up as mutant, which she could do since she had her people make it. She had no idea that he already knew her secret, and that he knew it because he was a mutant himself.
"Of course." He had the decency to look humbled. His eyes scanned the table one last time and he shook his head slightly in disappointment that he found nothing he needed. But he had gained information, which was just as useful. "Would you like to go out for coffee with me sometime?" He wanted to talk to this woman one on one without all the stuffed shirts around. Ronan could tell that Evelyn knew far more than she let on.
Evelyn looked over the crowd and at the table before returning her gaze to Ronan. "How about now... and we upgrade to lunch." She questioned. She was quite done with being at this place and had done her duty to her company. Now she wouldn't mind spending some time with the handsome man in front of her.
Ronan grinned. "Excellent." A weapons conference and now lunch with a beautiful, intelligent woman, this was turning into quite a day.
