WHO Alex & Lorna
WHAT Alex picks the woman up from the airport
WHEN Uh. Some. day.
WHERE The airport....
After nearly five hours spent on a stuffy, boring plane, Lorna had made it back to New York. And good riddance! Lorna had always hated flying, not so much for the most obvious reasons, but even just because it was an uncomfortable environment where she had to spend an extended period of time sitting beside someone who probably smelled, or took up more than their allotance of seat space. But I digress. She had visited her parents for a few days in San Francisco -- it was their thirtieth wedding anniversary -- and was now returning to New York. After a few days away from training, she was happy to be getting back into her usual routine. It was a cold February afternoon when she arrived, and with the light jacket she had worn in California's warmer weather, she anticipated possibly freezing to death. Wearing a pair of black, heeled boots, skinny jeans and a v-neck t-shirt under the aforementioned jacket, she looked the part of a Californian girl. The secret, however, was her mother had dressed her before she'd left. Yes, Lorna was still taking fashion tips from her mother. As talented as she was, she wasn't exactly blessed with a sense of fashion. Her mother had been appalled by the way she'd shown up in the San Francisco airport, and had immediately taken her daughter shopping for something better to wear than sweatpants, leg warmers, a scrunchie and an over-sized t-shirt. But apart from the embarassing way in which Lorna chose to present herself, she was pretty enough apart from all of that. And, as a result from the pretty gene (which it seems all mutants have!), she had someone waiting to pick her up. Her boyfriend, Alex Summers, had agreed to meeting her at the airport. After retrieving her small check-on bag, she exited the arrival gates and searched for a familiar face. Alex couldn't lie. He'd almost forgotten about picking her up. Could you blame him? His attention had been focused on the hoopla of the protest in Connecticut. He knew - hell, they all knew - it was going to blow up into something they didn't want to deal with, but were going to have to anyway. Innocent people were going to get hurt, even if they weren't going to start the trouble, they were still going to get called bullies and human weapons of mass destruction. The drama just wasn't something he needed now. Or ever, really. Thank God for calendar alarms, though. He'd purposely scheduled the time for Lorna's arrival on his calendar with an alert two hours ahead of time just in case. Obviously it was a good idea - and obviously he was kind of a bad boyfriend for forgetting that his woman was coming back that day, but she doesn't need to know that, does she? Of course not. Alex had been sitting at the gate, waiting for a while before the plane had landed, just watching people flow through the space and wondering what that strange smell was. Once the plane had landed, he did his best not to focus on the weird smell anymore, instead trying to pick out Lorna as he watched the gate. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew that was weird, but it had become such a habit, and it was so much easier to do it that way when there were too many people for him to actually see her. Once he'd picked it up, he moved around some people, apologizing for being pushy and such before he decided to stop because people were giving him dirty looks. She could close the distance. Well isn't Alex just the perfect gentleman? To tell the truth, Lorna hadn't really had the time to invest much thought into the whole Connecticut protest. She'd heard about it and would definitely learn more in the next little while, but up until then she'd just wanted to spend time with her parents and not be worried about her well-being. For once in her life. She caught sight of him as he pushed through people, and her smile was immediate. Lorna had forgotten that magnetic (haha) attraction between the two of them, but as soon as she saw his face she felt her heart skip a beat. As cliche as that is, she wheeled her bag behind her and once she was close enough, tossed an arm around Alex and laughed a bit. "You didn't forget," she gave him a squeeze. Good thing she's not telepathic. "Hey." Obviously. He couldn't help but think about the protests, since he was certain shit was going to go down, and preparations needed to be made. He was glad, though, that she got to take a vacation before all this happened, it just sucks that it would start up when she got back. OH WELL. He was glad he hadn't spent his yet, because it looked like he was going to need some time away from the crazy that was being an X-man. Glancing to the side a bit, looking much less than innocent, he recovered quickly with a smile and a squeeze. "Of course not, how could I?" Liar pants. He then glanced to her carry-on and raised a brow, and maybe even frowned a little bit. "So...how many more bags have? I mean...how much extra crap did you bring back with you?" Don't act like it doesn't always happen. You can't go on vacation and return home with the same amount of stuff. It's against the law. "I only went home for a few days. Why would I bring extra crap back from home?" she wondered, nodding to her check-on bag and the carry-on that sat on her hip, the strap sitting over her shoulder. Lorna wasn't one for souvenirs or anything. She let go of the hug and leaned for a small peck, smiling up at her pretty man. "My mother did make me throw out a lot of my old clothes, though. The stuff I usually wear on planes," she explained. Sighing, she settled a hand on her hip and shook her head. "At least she bought me all new stuff. She told me I was embarrassing. Oh! But I did get you something." It was definitely a rock. "I don't know. Because you're a girl," he made a face to suggest this was obvious and she shouldn't have to ask. "And your mom is weird," he reminded her, same look on his face. "I mean...she's not weird weird. She's just. I don't know. Not that I can talk," because his mom was weird, too. Maybe all adoptive parents were strange. Maybe it was a universal law. Taking one of her bags, Alex watched her expectantly after learning she'd brought him something back. "Don't tease. What'd you get me?" He's impatient, he knows. This is something she's just going to have to live with. Lorna made a face right back at him, scrunching up her nose and sticking out her tongue. She wasn't exactly the normal kind of girl, especially in this case. "Both our moms are weird," she agreed, letting him take a bag without any objection. Nodding that they could head off towards the car, she pulled her Blackberry out of her pocket and turned it back on after the flight. No messages! "I can't just tell you what I got for you," she pointed out with a raised eyebrow, sliding her phone back into its pocket. "You'll have to wait until we get back." He knew she wasn't like other girls, but it didn't change the fact that she was, indeed, a girl. Still, if he'd gone to California for a few days, he would have come back with at least a case of crap he really didn't need. Actually, that probably would happen no matter where he went. He was about to whine about wanting to know what in the world she'd gotten him, then she continued with her suggestiveness and secretiveness and he just didn't know what to think about that. Raising his own brow, his eyes shifted away from her for a second before returning. "I don't know how to respond to that. Is it scandalous?" It seems Alex would be considered more like a girl than she in such a case, then. Because Lorna didn't like having useless crap sitting around all the time! She was a little bit of a clean freak, especially when it came to having stuff she didn't really need. The garbage was one of Lorna's best friends. And then Alex was asking about the present she'd gotten for him, and Lorna couldn't help but grin. She would have laughed, because he was incredibly adorable sometimes, but didn't want to ruin the surprise. Maybe she could trick him into thinking it was something else, and then really surprise him! "I can't tell you, Alex!" she whispered, shaking her head. "You're just going to have to wait." She waited for the excited little-boy look that his face might just take on in a moment like this. To provoke it, she just continued to grin up to him. Well, she's not getting excited little boy. She's getting kicked puppy, because seriously. Who the hell is she to tease him like that? Huh!? He definitely wasn't appreciative of this secret keeping. Why couldn't she just say, Alex, it's not something we should discuss in public! Then he would have dropped it, and felt okay about being excited to get home. But no. She had to be difficult. "I don't like waiting." Impatient, remember? "Is it that bad? Stop teasing me." "Alex," she began, taking his hand and slipping her fingers between his. "I'll show you when we get back home. And then we can... talk about it," she told him. Not exactly trying to be suggestive, she definitely came off that way. "I know you don't like waiting, but you'll like it better when we get back." Smiiiiile. Yes, he was still pouting, but it because more of a frown when he huffed and sighed. "Fine. I'll wait. But it's still not right - you teasing me," tease. Clearly it was time to change the subject. Glancing around him to see just where he could turn the conversation, he rolled his shoulder a bit before bringing up the issues. "So...did you hear about this thing up in Connecticut?" Yes. Let's talk about this now. It's clearly the perfect time to do so. Oh clearly it's the perfect time. No saying, hey Lorna, you look great and I'm so glad you're back! Walking beside him, towards the car, she buttoned up her jacket with a free hand. "Yeah, I heard a bit about it. I didn't hear much though." She sighed again, tucking that free hand back into her jeans' pocket. "What's everyone's response to it, so far?" Well, she did look good! But it was a given...to Alex at least. He had issues with some of those standard boyfriend duties - he hated being repetitive, so he wasn't going to say, oh hey there, you look magnificently beautiful today dear. Maybe she should just look in a mirror. "Oh, you know. The usual." His smirk was a bit lopsided as he looked up to try and remember where he'd parked. "The usual being the 'here we go again' sighs of annoyance. The whole event is pretty predictable." Yeah, well Alex was weird like that. But Lorna had learned well enough, a long time ago, that he wasn't just going to surprise her with compliments all the time. Just like she didn't shower him with compliments either. "That was pretty much my response to it as well," she pointed out. "Are there plans for us to make a visit?" Lorna hated humanity sometimes. They were all terribly ignorant. There's the car! Sometimes he wished his memory was as sharp as his hearing. Moving toward the car now, he shrugged a little as he shook his head. "Not yet, but. You know how it goes. Things like this, we're most likely going to end up making an appearance whether we want to or not. It's annoying how necessary it is," the car beeped as he unlocked it remotely, then popped the trunk. "Hopefully we can intercept if they definitely do decide to show up? Less casualties, less drama, less airtime." And less airtime was the best part. He hated seeming himself on tv,especially since his offensive abilities were a little more violent than most peoples. Lorna pulled her bag over her shoulder and tossed it into the trunk, hands settling on her hips. "Yeah, I don't exactly feel comfortable when I'm forced into public with everything, either." Although Alex's abilities were violent, Lorna's were nearly equally as scary, and they would always give her a reputation of burning without questions asked. "Hopefully nothing bad will happen, though, and we can all just continue fighting the good cause." Carefully placing the bag he'd been carrying into the trunk, he shut it just as carefully and smirked a bit. "Fighting the good cause?" His brow perked as he moved around the the drivers side and opened the door. "What, are you some kind of comic book super hero, now? Do you fight for truth and justice, too?" "Of course I do. I'm also a terrific cheerleader for the entire mutant cause," she rolled her eyes at him, moving to the passenger's side. "You know what I mean, though. I think all of the Professor's speeches have been affecting me." Slipping into her seat, she shut the door behind her before turning to him. "We are superheroes, anyway. Don't tease me." |
