Co-post: Jubilee and Oni, pt. 1
Oni's brow furrowed at the flippant way in which some of the x-crew were shrugging her off. Even the woman she'd gotten picked up with a few weeks back had ample opportunity to say something smart. Her requests fell on deaf ears, and Oni guessed at the reason they couldn't understand her inability to sit back and let others fight her battles for her, crappy powers be damned. She'd done nothing but purposely mislead the other residents when it came to her mutant abilities and what she could do. It didn't exactly lend credence to her case but, after a year 'outside', it was ingrained into her behavior. She'd thought the snake woman, out of everyone at the mansion, could relate. Guess she couldn't. "Likewise," she grunted over her shoulder.
Jubilee wasn't one to just randomly brush people off. She had heard the girl's request and was going to help her out, but then the others showed up. She frowned slightly, knowing that they were needed outside, but at the same time, she wasn't just about to blatantly ignore this girl in favor of rushing into battle. That just wasn't how Jubilee did things. Sighing, Jubilee shook her head and made to follow the others, not wanting to get scolded or reprimanded. She turned back, her arm having been caught by the girl.
They made to leave, brushing past her, but she caught the arm of the youngest x-woman, the only one amongst them that had shown Oni any concern. "Please," she hissed desperately, hoping the little spitfire would catch her meaning "It'll take less than a minute." Glancing between them, Jubilee looked back to Oni and nodded. "All right." She knew she might get scolded but honestly, she didn't care. It wasn't right for someone to ask for help and just be denied like that.
The darker woman flashed Jubilee a grateful grin. "They won't even notice you've gone," she promised, then her face sobered. "But ya gotta hold on to me, alright?" She took a firmer hold on the other woman's arm, and her body tensed. Suddenly, everyone, and everything around them stopped, blurring. Even color seemed duller. In truth, Oni wasn't effecting in their vicinity so much as she had pulled herself and Jubilation out of the stream of time. They were on the outside looking in. "Lead the way," she gasped, tugging the girl by the hand towards the elevator as the rest of the universe held its breath. "Just remember to not let go." If she did, Jubilee would be plunged back into the flow of time, quickly getting left behind in the process.
Jubilee smiled lightly, nodding. "I'm sure they won't miss me," she winked, happy to help out. "I'll hold on," Jubilee promised, knowing it was very important she do so. She hadn't expected everything to stop and become blurry. "Whoa," Jubilee commented, snapping back to reality. "Right," she nodded, keeping a firm grip. Making their way to the elevators, Jubilee entered their destination and they headed below. There were weapons stored in the locker rooms. Those would be good.
Once they were inside the elevator, Oni took a deep breath and let go, everything resuming the pace it'd taken before. The mother of all migraines pounded inside her head, her brain on fire. This was the reason Oni rarely used her powers; It hurt like hell. She shut her eyes tight for a moment, pinching the bridge of her nose as she struggled to function through the pain. God, she would kill for some Ibuprofen, but there was no time. There was nothing for it but to grit her teeth and regain her grip onto Jubilee when the elevator reached their destination.
When the doors opened up to the floor where the locker rooms were, Jubilee turned to Oni and smiled. "This way," she inclined with her head and made her way down the hallway. Oni followed the x-woman through the cold, steel corridor, weaving between the people frozen in place, all the way down to the locker-room. Good thing no one was in there changing - For one, it would've been highly embarrassing and, two, they'd have given anyone there a triple bypass appearing as they did from out of nowhere.
