Magneto et Sabretooth
Sabretooth dropped the Darkseeker he'd been clutching by the throat when Magneto contacted him through the radio. He took off toward the tree line in the general area Magneto had indicated. It didn't take him long to notice the trio of large creatures and in lieu of devising a plan, he barreled straight for them.
The two smaller beasts came at him first and he caught the first by its face. As the other advanced, he gave the first a good jerk - claws embedded into the tight flesh of its face - and snapped its neck. The second rushed him, and by that point, the third and largest had taken the initiative and joined the brawl. The smaller was quickly pushed aside and it became a clash of titans.
Meanwhile, Will had climbed through the broken section of wall and tore ass for the woods beyond - the place from which the Darkseekers had launched their attack. Xavier had been way over the line - completely unfair. Will was still steaming mad when he stumbled upon the scuffle in the wilderness. Sabretooth was taking on two of the largest specimens Shard had ever seen. He watched as Sabretooth shrugged off the smaller of the two and tumbled and thrashed after the larger Darkseeker, further into the woods. The smaller had stopped its movements and made a gesture Will recognized. It was sniffing him out. Let it. He deliberately snapped the twig under his foot and it was on him in seconds.
The two fought, entangled, severely injuring each other until both fell back. The Darkseeker grunted and groaned and writhed miserably, clutching hold of its own leg where Will had slung it into a tree. Shard himself had been knocked backward, and had hit his head on a lower branch. By the time he shook his head clear and regained a straight line of vision, the creature had passed out - either from excursion, pain, or both. Will allowed himself a moment to heal, and his butt fell against the leaf-covered forest floor. He panted and fumed as he watched his foe, a few yards off. It breathed in and out slowly, hands fallen away from the wound he had inflicted upon it. It looked weak and pitiable and far more peaceful than any he'd encountered. He wondered to himself what he'd become.
Victor cut back through his battle-torn path, the largest of the trio slung over his shoulder. His coat was gone, for the most part, and his shredded tunic barely clung on. He had smelled out Shard before he had disappeared, but didn't really have the time to care. The pup was still around, and had taken down the remainder. He gave a gruff sound of acknowledgment and moved past the kid.
Through the quiet of the moonlight, wooded surroundings, Will's voice was painfully clear when he called out, "Why do you live like an animal?"
Victor stopped, but didn't turn. "That's what I am."
"You don't think we're more evolved?"
"Is that what you've heard?" Sabretooth's feet set back into motion and he moved further away from the two smaller men, Darkseeker and X-pup. "Bring that home, when you're done with it."
A few minutes later, when things were quiet once again, Will leaned back against the slim tree trunk and glanced up through the barren canopy of branches toward the sky. What Sabretooth had said irked him. It almost felt like the man had given him a pat on the back. 'Good job killin' things'. That's not what Will wanted to be - it wasn't who he was.
He was brought out of his daze when he heard shuffling from where the Darkseeker had been. There were two of them. They didn't smell much different, and he'd been distracted, so it didn't really surprise him, but he sat still, hoping he wouldn't have to kill anything else.
The newcomer was crouched nervously over the first, touching at its leg here and there. The first yowled and grunted at the contact, and tugged on the clothings scraps of its fellow. Together, they lifted his rival up from the natural debris and without much of a look toward Shard, they moved rigidly off into the trees.
No. He wasn't going to kill people anymore. Xavier would have to find someone else. He had plenty of options.
