It had been an eventful day. Opening the doors to your sworn enemies and allowing them to inhabit your home was not something the professor ever expected to do. Times had changed. Books would be written about this momentous period of time. An array of literature sat the book shelves containing everything from biographies of great leaders to the fall of the most influential civilizations. The smell of their leather binding was in the air. While running the tips of his fingers across the indentations of his desk, Charles wondered if Darwin's theory of natural selection had more momentum than expected. Were mutants intended to become the ultimate inhabitants of this planet? If a cure were to be developed now or in the future, what impact would that have on the ecosystem?
The professor spent a great deal of time in his office thinking about these enigmas, often standing infront of the window but with his eyes closed. He used his capabilities to safeguard everyone in the mansion. He made sure everyone was focused and engaged. He remained respectful and didn't delve into any minds, but he was aware of everyone's interactions and intendments. The situation was far too sensitive for a lack of awareness. He knew everything that went on, but his talent proved useless in conjuring an idea to stop this epidemic. All he could do is wait and continue to provide resources and guidance.
Some needed more guidance than others. He remembered when a timid young mutant named Rogue needed direction. He provided that for her, but along the way she became lost. She had no direction right now except her own, which led her down the wrong path. It was time to address this. He sent for her earlier, he wondered if she was even willing to face him. He waited patiently.
