If you missed our six-o'clock report, an incident at a local superstore in Detroit, Michigan resulted in 6 deaths and several injuries, which were a direct result to sentinel involvement after an elderly man who carried the mutant-x gene suffered a heart-attack this afternoon and released rays of energy from his chest. Sentinels and local law enforcement were called in, as there was serious damage done to the building itself, as well as minor injuries amongst the store's shoppers. Due to the weakened state of the mutant man responsible for the incident, his mutation continued to cause damage after the arrival of emergency personnel. Our correspondent in Detroit, Lance Ferguson, has the current details of the situation, Lance?
Yes, Maria, today we witnessed a horrific display of power, by both man and machine. The heart-attack victim, Gus Palermo, began to emit an extremely powerful amount of energy. Concussive blasts radiating from his person began to tear away sections of the store's interior and exterior, causing the patrons the need to evacuate. As far as it can be told, however, none of the deaths or injuries that resulted due to this ordeal were fault of Mr. Palermo. The local sentinel machine that arrived with police escort within minutes of the event took extreme measures in extricating Gus Palermo (a mutant) from the business. The roof of the building was removed by the machine, and several of the already-weakened walls began to tumble atop escaping shoppers. Police say the machine has been deactivated. Though, one can't help but wonder if others across the country may begin to take drastic measures to prevent mutants from harming people. Some say this situation is a double-edged sword. Until this point, the sentinels have only reacted to mutants who were participating in criminal activity. As Mr. Palermo was committing no crime, and was in fact in need of assistance, one wonders if the artificial intelligence within these behemoths needs to be drastically reevaluated. Maria?
Both Shaw and Stark industries have released press statements about this occurrence and those will be re-aired on our ten-o'clock report. You can also view those on our website at www.foxnews.com/video/index.html. Thank you again, Lance.
