"Mars?" Zap knew better than to sneak up on the Irishman. She approached the door to the workshop he was tinkering in, but waited for a response.
"'Lo, Zap." Ronan greeted, not looking up from his work. "Come an' see what I've made."
She pulled the door opened, with a bit of anticipation and peered around. Her eyes landed on Mars where he sat in his usual office chair at a work table. "I can't say for sure, but I bet it's aggressive. You're too chipper." She was grinning. "Does it... explode?" She approached with caution.
"Ye know me too well, lassie." Ronan smiled, picking up one of the egg-sized objects on the table and holding it out to Zap. "Guess what it is."
Zalika eyeballed the little weapon in Mars' hand and spoke her first guess, "A grenade?" She shifted her weight and glanced away to the rest of the do-dads on the workbench. Yeah... grenades.
"S'not just any grenade. Here's a spoonful of sugar for our hungry mates outdoors." Mars handed the piece over to Zap. "UV light grenade, that." He was reclined back in his swivel chair, hands on his abdomen, ears awaiting the first bit of feedback on his latest creation.
"Wow. So when Xavier said he didn't want us to kill them, you took it as a challenge to find a way to do all but, right?" She shifted the grenade in her hand and then placed it carefully back down on the table. "So they have to be activated," her finger touched the pin on the on she'd been handling, "here? Did you consider making them un-triggered? Just shatter-prone?"
"I considered it, but some people 'round here can be clumsy as hell an' I don' want 'em broken." he said matter-of-factly.
"Gee, thanks." She grinned, but nodded rhythmically before pulling up a chair next to Ronan. Zap had had her share of accidents in Mars' presence, but she knew he meant in general pertaining to his new gadgets. For the most part, she wouldn't even be using them. They'd probably be loaded into the souped-up Hummers. "Y'know," she began, having fallen into a similar posture as her male counterpart, "it'd be great to test 'em out before using them on a mission. You should page Brian and see if he'd fly some out over the gates outside the school."
Mars grinned. "I'll ask him 'bout that later."
"... I wasn't serious." Zap winced comically and shrunk down a bit more in her seat, guiltily.
"Oh no, we're gonna do it now." Ronan replied, giving her jovial swat on the leg with the back of his hand.
She shook her head in minor exasperation and turned in her chair to face the security monitors. For as packed as the school was, things sure did look empty.
