"I'm as fine as to be expected," was Eva's reply. "Considering the circumstances..." Matrix normally kept her emotions in check most of the time, but she was actually letting a bit of her anxiety show tonight. It was never easy to hear that a teammate might not make it, much less five of them at the same exact time.
Over the years, Matrix had come to love and respect her fellow X-Men. Loosing any of them would've been devastating for her, but knowing that two of her good friends (Mars and Shadowcat) were in mortal peril and there was nothing she could do about it; it made her feel even more helpless.
When Zap and Conlan opened their arms to her, Eva moved in closer and wrapped her own arms around their shoulders, huddling with them. It was times like these when she truly appreciated having friends around.
"Everything is going to be okay, Zalika," she whispered into her fellow techie's ear. Conlan had been right to say that if Ronan could do anything was survive. Ronan was a fighter and survivalist, that was fact. There really was no doubt (okay, maybe a little) in her mind that he'd pull through, albeit a bit more worse for wear than before he left, but at least he'd be alive.
"Ronan's stubborn," she continued in the most soothing voice she could muster. "There's no way that he'd allow himself to be taken out like a chump," she added with a small smirk. Now it was Eva's turn to help lighten the mood with a little joke.
