Myra,
Got a lead on something better. Either way, I'll be back for you.
-Victor
Sabretooth slipped the envelope with the letter to Sway under her door and headed down the hallway toward the Brotherhood common room. Over the last few months, Victor had ventured outside the Xavier compound nearly everyday. With the government and the X-Men curing people at an amazing rate, the world was slowly getting back on its feet. Opportunities were out there, ones that beat anything Xavier, Magneto, or Mystique had to offer. The most promising prospect of the lot was definitely worth packing up and leaving this place for. So, with his one duffle bag stuffed full of his few belongings and the note left for Myra, he was on his way out.
Victor tossed the bag over the section of the wall he had planned to make his exit point. Before actually leaving, he had one more loose end to tie up.
Logan somberly climbed the stairs to Ororo's room. It had been three days since the cure mission that had gone so wrong, the aftermath of which was still being felt throughout the entire mansion. He had just visited the team down in the infirmary, mostly concerned about Storm, and for the third day in a row, been forced to leave as the medical staff had strict rules for that group. No one was allowed much time with the injured due to the side-effects of the encounter. So, also for the third day in a row, he was on his way to Ororo's room. A little time in a place that obliviously reminded him of Storm kept the feral mutant in good spirits. Besides, someone had to water and talk too her plants.
Wolverine pushed opened the door and stopped dead. Amongst the sweet aroma of Ororo's perfumes, a much different smell lingered. Logan knew it immediately, and it caused a bolt of anger to shoot through his entire being. He turned on the spot and sped toward the nearest exit of the mansion. Logan didn't know why the sight and smell of Sabretooth had bothered him so much. But even three years ago on that highway in Canada, the first time he could remember meeting the beast, there was something about him he hated. And now he wished he would have just killed the man.
Logan stormed out of the mansion, across the grounds, and into the Brotherhood dorms. He followed the scent to the room he knew to be Sabretooth's. The Wolverine burned with fury. Why the hell had Victor been in Ororo's room? The Brotherhood knew what had happened, they knew Storm and the other X-Men were downstairs in the lower levels. Logan was going to find out what Sabretooth was up to, one way or another; even if his claws had to do the talkin'. The adamantium weapons emerge from his clenched fists as he slammed his forearm in the door so hard the frame splintered at the knob. Wolverine growled into the room, but only emptiness greeted him.
"Right on time."
Sabretooth's voice came from behind him but before Logan could turn the other mutant was on him - one powerful hand on the back of his neck, and the other digging into the small of his back with the aid of five razor sharp nails. Almost instantly, Logan was off his feet and was being carried across the room.
Sabretooth had seen Logan venturing into Storm's room the past few days. "You were always so considerate." The larger man spoke again as Logan felt his body being launched toward the window. He was set free and hurled through the glass, then fell the the twenty or so feet onto Xavier's lawn. Stunned by the fall, Logan's claws had disappeared and as the cuts and scratches quickly repaired themselves, he shook off the daze. A few quick rolls moved him away from the place he had landed just before Victor Creed's size sixteens occupied the space.
Sabretooth adjusted from his landing and moved rapidly toward Logan. He pulled his leg back and delivered a swift kick to the other mutant's abdomen, lifting Logan off the ground and into a nearby oak tree. "I'm so sick of watching you play school teacher!" he yelled as the Wolverine bounced off the trunk of the large tree. "Wiping these brats noses... it's adorable. But, it's not quite what you were made for, was it?" Sabretooth paced while speaking as though this was a civilized conversation. "You're so ungrateful for the gift you've been given!"
Logan pushed himself off the ground, both sides of his body ached after being knocked around by Victor's foot and the fifty year old tree. Logan crouched, ready to attack and hastily forced his claws out. "What the fuck is your problem?" He spat when he screamed, and the words resembled grunts more than actual language.
"You're my problem! You and those claws of yours." Victor looked down on the shorter man with disdain. "Stryker favored you over everyone else and gave you that unbreakable skeleton... He had such hope for you. What are you doing now; playing house? Thank you Logan. Thank you for waking me up to what I had become. I now remember what we were intended to be - our potential. Getting my mind straight was the best thing anyone could have done for me. Funny, cause if you remembered what I'd done to you, you'd kill me on the spot. Or try to, anyway."
"I don't need 'em back to kill ya." Logan said as he rushed Creed, he'd had enough of story time. What Stryker had done to him, done to all the mutants he'd experimented on, was criminal and he deserved what he got at Alkali lake.
Wolverine charged and Victor braced himself. Sabretooth fell backward onto the ground as the Logan leaped for him. His leg shot out and caught Logan in the ribs sending him over Victor toward the wall behind them.
Logan sailed over Creed with the aid of Sabretooth's boot in his chest. He flew in the direction of the concrete wall, in mid-air he twisted his body around so his feet made contact with the wall instead of his head. Logan pushed off the barrier and launched himself back at Creed, who was just pulling himself to his feet. All six claws stabbed the other man and for the first time in this fight, Logan ended up on top.
Victor roared when Wolverine's claws sunk into his chest. He fell on the ground and his arm shot up for the smaller man's neck. Both hands around it, he choked Logan with all the force he could muster. One hand left his neck and moved to Logan's chest, pushing him off his body. Sabretooth's longer arms made it possible for him to force Wolverine off of him and to the ground beside him. Creed's own healing factor began working on the six wounds and he pulled himself to his feet. With a few steps and one good jump, Victor landed on top on the wall and looked back toward Logan. "We'll finish this later, maybe on your birthday. I'll make sure to check in on Ororo, too." He turned and leapt off the wall.
Victor had crushed Logan's windpipe like a straw and Wolverine stumbled on his first attempt to regain his footing. Even without the luxury of oxygen he'd still managed to take a swipe at Victor when he jumped away. Victor's words filled him with even more anger as Logan fought hard against the urge to follow to other mutant into the woods. "I'll be waitin'." Logan forced the words through his mangled throat as it healed. "Next time, Only one of us is leavin'."
