She took the offered hankie and pressed it to her eyes briefly, trying to stop the flow of tears. Eddie's head was swimming with emotions and the effects of the booze and it was making her head fuzzy (and her stomach a little queasy). Maybe sitting down wasn't such a bad idea. She shook her head when he mentioned Joe. "I deserve to be in pain." she said quietly. She really didn't want to see any doctors right now. She'd brought it on herself. When they reached the bench, she sank down onto it. Her feet were much better for it. She put her hands in her lap, still holding the handkerchief, and brought her eyes to his face when he crouched down in front of her. Edana was trying her hardest not to start sobbing. That never did any good and it would make her stomach hurt even more. She tried to smile at Gus' attempt at humor, but when his hand brushed her cheek tenderly, the wall she'd built in her mind came crashing down. "Gus..." she managed to choke out before she slumped forward against him, crying heavily. "I'm so sorry..." For hitting Betsy, for ruining people's evening, for him putting up with her. Everything. Gus could stop himself (and others) from feeling what she was. She wished he could stop her from feeling them.
