Self-defense or not, Wren had killed the man she loved.
Weren't lovers supposed to give of themselves, selflessly? In the moment, she had only been thinking of herself, of her own safety... She hadn't thought she had done the right thing until after the allowed herself to reflect upon it. And even then, she still had her own little misgivings - even if they weren't exactly rooted in logic.
If she had let herself be killed, Lucas would've gone on to live, that was true; but he would've gone on to kill countless of others. Theoretically, in doing what she had done, she had saved lives. Maybe that thought alone should've brought some sort of comfort to her wary mind, but it didn't. Wren wasn't going to take the credit and make herself sound heroic, because she hadn't been thinking of anyone but herself then.
"Maybe," she had replied a moment later. A new beginning might've sounded wonderful to a lot of people, but it didn't settle well with her in the least. She didn't want to start over, because her life had been perfectly fine before this had had happened. She had had everything she had wanted - at least in the moment, she had.
But, as much as she loathed to admit it, it was time for her to move on.
"No, I haven't," Wren said. She had only spoken to the Professor a handful of times and only one of those times did she have a conversation with the man at length. "I should probably do that."
Wren was an educated woman, and being a teacher's assistant wouldn't be such a bad gig for her. It'd at least give her something to.
