There. She had spoken the words aloud and nothing cataclysmic occurred.
Subconsciously, Wren had wondered that if she had confessed to such a heinous crime that she might be smote down, or at the very least greeted with hostility. Luckily, neither was the case here. Kurt seemed to be non-judgmental type, which seemed to put her mind to ease somewhat.
When Pete had entered the small chapel, Wren had turned her head in time with Kurt's. She had seen the large man around the mansion regularly, but they had never been properly introduced. However, due to her frail emotional state, she wasn't very keen on meeting anyone new right then. Especially since she was dangerously close to breaking down into a blubbering mess.
Deal now. Socialize later.
Wren was brought back at Kurt's gentle touch to the shoulder and she nodded her head slightly at his words. Lucas had been her fiance and potentially the love of her life. That one great love that would most likely never be experienced again.... At least, not by her. After all, you only got one soulmate per lifetime - or at least, that was what she had thought, anyway.
"He was," she confirmed, verbally this time. Wren had been aware of his demise since it had happened, but it felt so surreal to refer to him in the past tense. Part of her still clung to the false hope that she might've imagined the whole thing, or that the injury hadn't been as serious as it had looked. But, deep down, she knew he was gone for good and he wasn't going to come back.
"We had been together since high school."
