Zap turned her head to spy the new arrival and she scowled a little to herself, but things were getting a little tense and she needed to slack up a bit, anyhow. There was no use pot-stirring when the spoon was capable of doing it himself.
She nodded to Jamie and offered a smile - however partially embarrassed. One of the first times she had remembered seeing him, she was on the floor with most of her upper body exposed. When she looked back, she felt a twinge of guilt that Scott had snapped at the new arrival that way. Jamie had spent the time before then and up 'til now trying to be nice to other people and to find his place. He probably would have helped if there had been something for him to do after her fight with Edana. He didn't seem too preoccupied about any awkwardness with anyone at the moment - just hungry. "It doesn't smell half bad." While the men were talking, Zalika gave Eva a fretful, but apologetic smile and began eating the second pepper she'd seeded.
"If you do any such nonsense you'll be through that window, mate," Toad answered, with both brows raised in a mixture of surprise and threat. "I'll give you the recipe," a smirk followed, which showed that he hadn't meant the threat ... that seriously. He felt a little sting that the hungry lad had caused him to cut off his interaction with Matrix. When an X-Person came 'round, he never wanted to be in any compromising position. "What d'we think, love, should we share? If I recall," his gaze shifted over his shoulder from Eva to Jamie, "he eats a lot." Being ten of someone must have made you hungry.
He gave the meat a flip in the pan and watched it sizzle, smelling the salty, Tex-Mex aroma that was billowing upward. Come to think of it, the lad was right - he hadn't smelled anything this good in a while. Mort snerked to himself. Only made sense that starving brought out the cook in someone.
