"When you leave the door open," Zap began, with a bit of an accusatory tone, "you let in bugs." It was a kind way of saying 'people have been messing with the computer system who shouldn't be'. But she wasn't in charge, nor was Eva, so they didn't make the calls.
Zap simply kept her hands to herself, elbows on the arms of her chair, and worked with her eyes, playing catch-up to the work Eva had already done. She looked as though she was almost through - except with the updates. She could do those in the wink of an eye and the flip of a disk. "I think the system is getting overloaded. With all of the Brotherhood information that's been added into the files, and all the new simulations everyone keeps having Mars cook up, things are getting congested."
"Have you eaten?" Zap was starved. Sometimes the three of them (Mars included) could be found hunched over monitors with microwaved food items on paper plates in their laps, not a word said between any of them until someone spotted an issue.
