Who: Lorna Dane OTA What: trying to overcome her fear of her powers Where: Far away from the mansion and the construction (and anything else that would be badly messed up) When: afternoon.
Lorna was tired of her life, as it was. She was twenty or thirty pounds lighter than she'd been during her college days, she couldn't lift a tea kettle anymore, and she looked like a crackhead. This just would not do at all. Being so fragile was never something she had wanted for herself, even if she wasn't super-fitness-woman. So she had to remove her reason for enforced anorexia.
She had to face, and beat, her powers. It was surprisingly easy to find a section of the grounds that wasn't being used for anything, which she was grateful for. For the first time in over a year, she had eaten until she wasn't hungry anymore. The food felt foreign and heavy in her stomach, but she knew that it was just perception. Even eating until she was full didn't entail much food, anymore.
She set her jaw as she looked at the emptiness around her, then took a deep breath. She tried to recreate the feeling of her powers, the mad rush, the way the light looked, how her entire vision changed, and her mind seemed to expand beyond what she could bear. She tried to use her powers, for the first time since she'd gotten them.
It was a rush, but a controlled one. She had been calm this time, and she was a woman of Science(!). She freaked out a little, and shut them down after a moment, still not sure what they did. But she had used them, and they weren't so scary, when she was alone.
It had last half a second, but the rush was intense. She was breathing heavily, and laughing a little bit. Her vision faded again, and she wondered what it was she was seeing. It had been like the regular world but. . . with extra colors she had no names for.
It was intense. She flopped on her butt, not caring how cold it was. That had taken a lot out of her, but it made her feel immensely better.
