It's just phase, it will be over soon (oversoon) wrote in x_2012,
"....These are your mothers, daughters, people you went to school with, people you work, people you buy your groceries from. Why must they suddenly be singled out? We didn't ask for this to happen, but we have to make the best of it. Right now there's a place that encourages mutants to embrace their gift and use it for the benefit of society. Those yearning to better themselves outnumber those who are dangerous. We should be given a chance to prove ourselves and show our progress. It's not fair to those of us who are trying to handle this peacefully to have to be restrained through such militaristic measures. It's all fear based and fear hinders understanding and forward movement. Deep down are we really all that different? Recently we celebrated a day for a great man who spoke against injustice and discrimination, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I would like to end this conference today with a few quotes from him. He says that 'that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.' The Registration Act may have passed, but it isn't the end. Dr. King also said 'Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.' We're here to stay and we will continue to oppose these injustices and strive for a better future. And we will succeed. Thank you."
Another crescendo of applause and Warren felt relief that the hard part was over. Had this been years ago, he would've rushed off the stage into the arms of two hot brunettes waiting for him in his limo. But this time he actually believed in his cause and was ready to stick around for questions and concerns and to shake hands with people that he was building a future with.
All cameras were on Warren and he waved and gave his million dollar smile. He hoped his dad was watching, he hoped Haven was inspired, he hoped this made a difference. And the thought of a hot girl waiting for him in a limo actually didn't sound like an undeserving reward. Maybe later. Now he had a new world to face.
