"Dr. Sadeeqi is a doctor at Haven." Ruth offered that bit of information as if it were new, though she knew by now her mentor knew that information was well. That was the problem with being a precog most conversations were irrelevant by the time you got to have them. "Nice woman. Future's bleak." As if those two things somehow went together. In some cases, they did, but it was always possible something wouldn't happen. There was no 100% gonna happen future, just 99.9% sure, which was generally more than enough to label them inevitable.
The inevitability of it all reminded Ruth of when she'd pushed events to cause a certain young man to end up in a fight knowing the young woman with him was going to be kidnapped. No one was going to die and if she'd gone alone, or been caught alone, she'd have been injured far worse than she had been then still taken. Ruth had, in essence, mitigated the circumstances by offering someone else as a near sacrifice.
Did she feel good about it?
No. Not really.
Resignation was far closer to her emotional reaction. The girl survived and returned. All things were once again, to the strongest possible degree in her life, well. Her nightmares had subsided in order to be replaced by something comparatively worse since it included her own death and the deaths of nearly everyone she knew.
"Knowin' da future don't bring peace." It was her personal motto and the reason she didn't try to warn folks unless there was a chance of saving someone from their fate. If it felt sure, there was no point, so she didn't try. It was too hard for everyone involved in her mind.
