Having been a rather spoiled only child, she was not so good at sharing herself. Though physical altercations could be written off as long as the person was emotionally faithful. It took coaxing to get Raven to open up emotionally, so Irene never felt too threatened that anyone else could know the other woman as she did. Not to mention the fifteen years of acute awareness that one simply wasn't right without the other made one feel a certain sense of security.
Irene had seen the same exchange between Scott and Aurora, though purely by coincidence. It had been Kurt's future she was after, his reaction having elicited a chuckle. It was all part of the dance, the plethora of things young people did when seeking relationships. It was just that poor Ruth could see the end result. "Well, romantic or otherwise..." A relationship was a relationship, not a chance to be squandered.
Irene had seen that face, Aurora's, time and time again. "I can't..." See her. Focus on her. Figure her out. She knew it had something to do with this... event. This incident, this altercation at the factory, whatever it was to be called. There would probably be a name for it in the future. "I think I was her, once." Irene said slowly, straining to remember what had occurred in her dream before stopping herself. Her dreams were not a place she longed to visit, considering that she was usually reliving past tortures, and certainly not with her surrogate daughter in tow able to see everything. "You're impossible to protect, Schatzi." It was said affectionately but with a small sigh. Not that she wasn't always going to try, she reasoned, matching Ruth's fingertips with her own.
