"Exploits make it sound as if Ah've been up to somet'ing dirty." Ruth smiled as she said it, happy to talk to Irene about what was going on in her life. It was the kind of thing she looked forward to and missed about living in her adoptive mother's home.
It took a few minutes to get their coffee, but once they were settled, Ruth let herself think back to what her interaction with Scott had been like. "He's a bit silly." That was not how one would generally talk about a guy they'd just met. "Sounds good, but he's got issues."
Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but this was Ruth. Guys didn't generally get ringing endorsements from her, even if she liked them. Scott was inching his way into the friendship with Ruth. He sort of understood what blindness was like, though he wasn't stuck with it forever now that he had his glasses. That was good for him.
"His name is Scott Summers, but ya knew that." They could pick at each other about what they already knew without giving offense.
