It was three thirty four in the morning when Lucien quietly unlocked his door and slipped inside. The suite he shared with Fia was silent and dark. Lucien was exhausted even for a feral. The days between Bernard agreeing to come back to New York with him and this minute had been long and tiring. The eighteen hour flight (ten of those hours spent in layovers and potential cancellations because of the weather in New York) had drained what little reserves he'd had left. The cab ride from the airport to the dock had been the cherry on the pie. Sunday. Cake. Whatever. He was too tired to think.
Despite his intense desire to go to his room and curl up with Fia, Lucien had seen to Bernard first, making sure that his brother was in a clean room with sheets, towels and blankets. And heat. Lots and lots of heat because that single week had done away with what little tolerance Lucien had built up for New York cold. Poor Bernard was barely even ready for that having to huddle in a leather jacket with the promise that Lucien and Fia would take him shopping for winter clothes as soon as the snow broke.
Lucien just hoped that Bernard wasn't regretting his decision too badly. The week had been a bonding experience, getting the house protected from foreclosure by starting the reams of paperwork involved then closing it up so squatters couldn't get in it, all the while packing Bernard up and getting him prepared to move. They weren't best friends by any means but Lucien hoped that they could at least call each other brother now without spitting it out or growling. When packing and boarding got to be too much they'd spend hours at Zippy's eating and talking with some of either Bernard's friends or Lucien's friends or go surfing or drinking. There were times Bernard suggested a strip club but Lucien firmly put the kibosh on that. He'd done it once and that was enough when he had Fia to go home to.
Fia who was curled up in their very large very comfortable bed asleep (a gift from Shatterstar when he and Ric cut out - Lucien still wished he could've seen Ric's face when Star had told him who'd he'd given the bed to). Every fiber in his body ached to join her but he smelled. Eighteen hours, five layovers, three delays, two airlines and a blizzard made him smell like a high school boy's gym locker. Inwardly pitching a small hissy fit, Lucien heaved a sigh, set his bag down and went to go take a shower.
It was the shortest shower he'd ever taken. He took care of the essentials, didn't waste time enjoying the hot water, lathered up, washed off and left. He did make sure he was thoroughly dry though before crawling into bed with Fia, naked, heaving a deep deep sigh of contentment, exhaustion, and satisfaction. His arm wound around her hip in a familiar way he'd ached for during their time apart. "I've missed you," he whispered fervently into her hair, not sure if she was even awake to hear him. "Good god I've missed you!"
