Who: Rogue (narrative)
When: Bedtime
Where: Omega Base
What: Rogue's 'vision'
Rogue had done her normal routine before going to bed. Brushing her teeth, washing her face, and putting her pajamas on, knowing full well that no one was going to bother her. Being in her room was the one place she felt truly comfortable enough to wear whatever she felt like wearing. And regardless of the fact that it was winter, she wasn't wearing much. Just a big t-shirt. Oh how she missed the good old days. But that was besides the fact. Clearing her mind, or at least as well as she could, given her mind was a pretty crowded place, Rogue snuggled up to her pillow and went to sleep.
Of course, it didn't help that it didn't take long for her nightmares to start. The one's where she's in a tank. She's angry with something, but she's having a hard time knowing exactly who. No, wait, she does know who. The man in the coat. But mostly everyone really, but he deserves death the most. And what is wrong with the hands? The hands itch and burn and then there was nothing but pain. More and more pain. Always pain. It was that pain that woke her up in a sweat. Looking at the clock, she was glad that she even made it two hours this time.
Getting a glass of water, Rogue tried to sleep again. This time, she was looking at herself in the mirror. A mirror that was above her as she was restrained to a bed. Chunks and bits of skin taken from her arms. Needles ran straight into her without any disregard to her screams and pleads for them to stop. She struggled to break free until one of them accidentally touched her through a broken glove. The man seized and dropped to the floor as his memories flowed through her. Screaming this time, Rogue sat straight up in bed, breathing shallowly. She hated those memories of her own creeping into her dreams. Ones that she wanted to forget. But looking back at the clock, she finally had herself something more like five hours of sleep total. Sure it was disturbed, but how did that matter.
Plopping herself back down against the mattress, Rogue took a deep breath. Tossing and turning a little bit, she ended up staring at her alarm for a while, at least before finally falling asleep again. This dream was no ordinary dream though. It was dark, but she could see the power plants. Everything smelled so wrong, so obviously this had to be the right place. Just as the signal was given, Rogue rushed at the wall with her teammate. But as soon as those tin cans take flight, so does she, ready to take on whatever she can. At least until she hears that crunch. There was nothing like it in all the world, but she knew it well. Most of those inside her head knew it too. Seeing the metal wings, she knew. How could she not? Shouting, Rogue flies higher until she's over the central tower.
Everything is going to hell. They are not going to make it. It's not going to work. She hears a familiar voice call out to her to stay focused, but how can she? Stay focused on what? Defeat? "Farm boys' down, this isn't goin' well! I'm gettin' them out!" Rogue calls out before swooping down towards the complex and smashing straight through the roof. Suddenly Rogue is bending down and grabbing hold of a twisted but melted metal wall and tosses it away. Her eyes go wide as the back of her gloved hand covers her mouth as she sees so many burnt body parts. So many bodies, so hard to look, and yet she is drawn to this one with an "M" tattoo over one eye.
Gasping, Rogue wakes up, only to groan and rub her eyes. Damn nightmares and other people's memories. What the hell did Carol do for a living anyway? Let alone all those other crazy people in her head? Only in her twenties and sometimes she felt as if she were so many generations ahead. How many damn dead bodies did one need to see in a lifetime to hold some sort of achievement? Pinching the bridge of her nose, she quickly grabbed her alarm as it suddenly started going off, and threw it across the room. She was going to get some damn sleep tonight one way or another, even if it killed her and even if it was legitimately the morning. Her morning jog was just going to have to go to hell.
Grabbing the covers, she tossed them over her head as she lie back on the bed yet again, determined to get some real rest before she had to go to work. But later on, something about M's was really going to nag the hell out of her and make her wonder what she was missing.
