Wanda had always been proactive when given a choice. She had never much cared for the role her mother had tried to force her into of someone who sat on the sidelines. But that was exactly what she was currently feeling forced to be. It was making her grumpy. Maybe that was what pushed her to reorganize her team.
Oh, the reorganization was justified. They'd lost members. Ric and Star. Others before that. Some had simply quit. Some had been too broken to continue. Mostly though, she'd noticed that there was no longer the sense of mission, of single purpose that her father had instilled in the original team. That, more than anything, was what she was hoping to repair or replace with this new idea.
She'd thought long and hard about how to pair up her field team. She wanted them to have stable working relationships with people they could trust. It was an old way of doing battle, a partner who would have your back, compensate for your weaknesses.
The square table had folders in six places, each of which had a name on it.
The side to her left had Rogue and Ursus, to her right was Wind Dancer and Wild Child, and across from her was her brother Quicksilver and Boom Boom.
Inside the folders a scenario that she hoped her team would never find themselves in. It was, in a way, an ice breaker to get them working together, thinking about how to mesh their powers.
It read:
You and your companions have just survived the crash of a small plane. Both the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. It is mid-January, and you are in Northern Canada. The daily temperature is 25 below zero, and the night time temperature is 40 below zero. There is snow on the ground, and the countryside is wooded with several creeks criss-crossing the area. The nearest town is 20 miles away. You are all dressed in city clothes appropriate for a business meeting. Your group of survivors managed to salvage the following items:
A ball of steel wool A small ax A loaded .45-caliber pistol Can of Crisco shortening Newspapers (one per person) Cigarette lighter (without fluid) Extra shirt and pants for each survivor 20 x 20 ft. piece of heavy-duty canvas A sectional air map made of plastic One quart of 100-proof whiskey A compass Family-size chocolate bars (one per person)
Your task as a group is to list the above 12 items in order of importance for your survival. List the uses for each. You MUST come to agreement as a group.
Now she would wait for them to arrive and see what they came up with.
