Ruth’s words struck a chord in Irene, sending a sharp jolt of alarm through her and leaving her feeling cold. The shiver that ran through her moved her hand and it went back to clasping Blindfold’s, needing something solid to hold on to and contact to comfort.
“That resistance.” Irene murmured in agreement. They started off as a group of normal mutants, some more innocent than others. But constant struggle would take its toll on them. The innocent would slowly lose their innocence, some fight, some limbs and their passion; among other things. The less than innocent would turn into things far worse, far harder. But she left those thoughts to rest in the time between them, unable to voice these things aloud. It was too upsetting. She squeezed Ruth’s hand, reassuring herself as well as the other girl that they were indeed in the present, not the nightmarish future.
Perhaps one of these resistance fighters in the future held the key to defeating these robots that they could employ in the present. She wasn’t familiar with many of the faces, but perhaps one of them would succeed, survive through all the horror they’d have to endure in order to defeat these Sentinels and put a stop to the madness that threatened to overtake the world. “There has to be some way.” Irene said with less confidence than she would have liked.
