That's all right, Jean. I can teach you, but I'm going to need you to trust me. I'll need you to lower your shields and let me into your mind for just a few moments. Can you do that?
Charles waited for Jean's consent before engaging Cerebro on a whole other level. He and the Haven brain trust had theorized that telepaths could potentially teach others like themselves at the speed of thought. It had been only perhaps over a year ago that he had provided telepathic training implants to willing subjects to speed up the interested residents' readiness for battle, so the theory seemed to hold some water.
However, things did not always proceed smoothly from theory into practice. This was the perfect chance to test that theory, since the knowledge of how to perform the tasks he had described should be fairly simple for someone who already knew how to shield their own mind. Fortunately, with the aid of Cerebro, the procedure was as flawless as a surgical incision. In the mindscape, Charles had calmly explained they had all the time in the world, and described a few simple techniques to achieve the desired result. Redirecting people's attention, even en masse, was almost depressingly simple for someone who could plant thoughts and ideas in others' minds. While they spent as much time as Jean needed to understand the concepts, in the real world, it was over in the blink of an eye. Communication at the speed of thought was now more than just a theory.
There. All you need is a slight shifting of focus. You are stronger than you think, Jean. I trust you. Just remain calm, and expect a dark haired feral male codenamed Wolverine to arrive within twenty minutes or so. He is already on his way. I will see you soon. I'm shutting down the connection now, so I can make arrangements for your arrival.
Charles waited in case Jean had any other questions, otherwise, he would sever their telepathic link and disconnect from Cerebro in order to make ready the infirmary, arrange for an autopsy for Harrison, prepare a plot in the Haven cemetery, notify any next of kin, and generally go about the various minutiae of running the Haven itself. He also made a mental note to offer Jean some proper training for her telepathic abilities. That glimpse into the young woman's mind had astounded him. In the two, soon to be three years since he had been running the Haven and meeting mutants from all over the world, only the Grey siblings showed the scale of telepathic potential anywhere near his own.
