Pete listened to her attentively, the only sign of surprise at the mention of Havok being a slight tightening around the eyes he quickly released. He figured Storm either had not yet been told Alex was no longer team leader, or he had been somehow reinstated when Pete wasn't looking. The way things had been going lately, he wouldn't be surprised if he had missed that memo entirely. But, either way, this no longer concerned him, and he had to begin letting go of all the minutiae that tied him to the Haven so personally. Of course, he would always have the interests of mutantkind in mind, and he would still forward any relevant intel floating along the international intelligence services grapevine to Xavier and possibly Magneto as well, so long as it didn't present a conflict of interest in regards to his loyalty to Her Majesty. But he was about to be an ocean away, so a lot of details he would have to simply let go.
"Funny you should ask, luv," he replied, settling himself on the nearest flat surface. He tilted his head and gave Ororo a fond, close-mouthed smile. "I do have news I need to share, and I wanted you to hear it from me first. The Crown has summoned me back to active duty, effective immediately. Sadly, I've come to say goodbye."
He waited to see her reaction before going on. "I must report in Monday, first thing. As you can imagine, I've had a million things to do and no time to do them. As of today, Excalibur no longer exists." He sighed at the feeling that every time he said these things out loud, the pronouncements become more final and concrete. It was an eerie feeling. "It sounds so strange, coming from my mouth," he muttered, shaking and scratching his head at the same time. "So... that's my news," he finished, giving Ororo a small, guilty grin.
