Jean had been gone for more than a week spending time at the Haven getting to know her brother. It had been a wonderful time, a necessary time as they both dealt with the changes their relationship brought to their lives and the death of their father, sister, and Jean's mother. The fact that their deaths were now two years in the past meant little to the two of them seeing as Nate had been a disembodied spirit during that time and Jean's stay in the hospital had made her own life during those two years surreal at best.
That week had brought several important things to the fore in Jean's mind. The first was that even though she and Nate hadn't known each other before, the sibling bond was still strong between them. Perhaps it was their similar powers. Perhaps it was something else. Regardless, she was already protective of her brother and loved him dearly. The second thing was that her own mind had been all but asleep these last few months. She had a lot of questions that needed answers, and she wasn't going to be patient anymore. She was healed and an adult and she was going to be treated as one. Which blended into the third thing she'd learned this last week. She loved Eddie. She'd missed him terribly. That said, she would be his partner or she'd move on. She was done being treated as a child, and done being seen as one. It was time to remind him of the relationship they'd had before the flare had all but destroyed her life.
She returned to the home that had been Eddie's sanctuary, a sanctuary he'd shared with her and made theirs, with a smile teasing her lips. It was New Years Eve, a night of new beginnings. When she'd left, she hadn't planned to be gone too long, she she didn't have luggage to return with. Just a shopping bag that figured prominently into her plans.
She could hear him in the bedroom. Not that he was noisy so much as the rest of the living area was quiet. The light was on back there, and there was the faint noise of liquid being poured. For a moment she wondered if she'd misjudged and he had company in there with him. Her eyes narrowed a moment before a simple mind probe (not at him but looking for company) showed her that her fear in that regard was ungrounded.
She'd changed at the store, wearing home her selection under her coat. Eddie had once comment that the art of seduction was lacking in today's young adults. That it was always so rushed with no appreciation for the artistry. Tonight as she set out to renew that side of their relationship, Jean decided to throw out all the stops. The lingerie had been chosen specifically for him to be sexy without being all straps and cheap tackiness. It had some ties in the back for him to slowly untie without fake bows and silliness. She was even wearing make-up. Not too much, but enough to show him that she'd put in the time to do this right. And she fully intended to do this right.
Setting down the bag and changing from her boots to her high heels, she took a deep breath and walked to the bedroom door. She knew he would know she was there, either from the alarm system or from feeling her mind even before her heels made noise on the floor. That was all right. She had her shields up as tightly as she could, and after the last week at Haven, her shields were pretty damn tight. He might think she was sneaking in to get her things, or was planning to argue.
As she moved into the doorway, leaning against it in a purposefully seductive pose, one foot back with her toe on the floor, knee in towards the door frame, smile on her lips as she stood there confident in her almost-nudity, she had a moment to think that this was probably not at all what he was expecting. Gentleman that he was, she knew he thought he would be the aggressor when the time came. Too bad for him that she was very much a woman of the new millennium. Chivalry was all well and good, but it did nothing to relieve an itch, not to mention this was one sure fire way of reminding him she was well now, and an adult. And tired of waiting.
"So love, did you make your New Year's Resolutions yet? If not, I might have one for you."
