"Whoa, Nelly," Logan blurted out, quite literally. He scented the air to double check, even though his nose had already confirmed this was Kyle Gibney, codename Wild Child. Except it wasn't. Not where it really counted. There was the light of intelligence there now, where it wasn't there before. Not that Kyle had been dumb, but the eyes of a civilized, well-socialized man were staring back at Logan from Kyle's face. This wasn't the wild little playful puppy of a feral Logan had met. Not by a long shot. And he was talking sense, too. That was another change. Seriously, please? Social niceties? Logan was hard pressed not to believe this could be some shapeshifter, or a clone, or something. "That's right, bub. You stay right there. Yer story checks out, and then we can talk about help," he forced himself to say, eyeing the blond man suspiciously as he tapped his comm.
"Houston, we have a problem. Ya need to send the brain trust up here to look inside the kid's head. Smells like him. Scent's the same, but he's talkin' and walkin' all different and smart like." Logan pursed his lips at Gibs and added, "No offense." He just said it to see what kind of reaction he'd get from the usually unruly boy. He wasn't taking any chances. Polaris had clearly stated Gibs was part of the attack. However, he knew very well what it was like to be manipulated by others who saw mutants only as disposable weapons.
Xavier's voice came over the comm. "It's all right, Wolverine. I have been scanning him from Cerebro and this is indeed our Wild Child, no matter how changed. His brain has been extensively altered, but his core brainwave signature is unmistakable. Please escort Mr. Gibney to the infirmary so we can take a DNA sample to confirm."
"Negative," Logan replied immediately. "All due respect, I'm not bringing the subject inside the house until we're sure, but send someone out and I'll be sure to send down that DNA sample for ya." There was a pause before Xavier replied, obviously having consulted with someone else.
"Very well. Somebody's on the way," Xavier said succintly, none too pleased at being countermanded, but seeing the sense in Logan's refusal.
"Ya heard the man, bub. We need a DNA sample. Easy way, or hard way? Yer pick," Logan deadpanned at Gibs, his eyes cold.
