Not asking how she was at all would've been a hell of a lot worse than all the unwanted attention she was getting, but there was only so much she could take. No matter how many times she was asked or even who did the asking, the answer was the same. I'm fine. But that was far from the truth.
Laura was able to muster a small smile, but it was a fleeting one. "Thanks," she replied as she pulled the chair out to sit down. Her eyes moved around the shop briefly, taking in her surroundings as well before they landed back on Sam. "Hot chocolate. Apparently it's not a very common thing to order around here." She paused for a moment, taking a sip before setting it back down on the table. Laura sniffed the air for a second. "Plain black coffee?" she asked in reference to his own cup. "I take it you don't like to add any of those fancy flavors.."
