Sam wasn't much of a people watcher. It stemmed from his homegrown manners. He had a tendency to nod or even say a "Hello" to anyone who glanced his way. He also liked to make eye contact and that just unnerved some people. Plus, eavesdropping wasn't polite.
So, when he was by himself, Sam tended to focus on something directly in front of him, like his coffee. Every now and then he would look up to make a quick scan of the room because he liked to know his surroundings, but otherwise he kept to himself.
Oddly enough, he also was thinking about that girl, Lotte. It still concerned him that this Rogue character was bringing dead people to the Haven. He'd helped Boom Boom sort it all out, but it still ate at him, wondering why a girl was dead. That wasn't the only thing he was concerned about, though.
Laura had been back long enough for him to stop asking her how she was each day. He'd sensed that it was aggravating her and stopped, but that didn't mean he wasn't worried about her. Being kidnapped certainly wasn't on his Bucket List.
When he spotted her entering Uncommon Grounds, Sam was actually relieved. She was getting outside of the Haven, which was a good thing. He actually planned to give her a wave, but was pleasantly surprised when she asked to sit with him.
"Seat's all yours, darlin'," Sam drawled and gestured with a nod to the chair. He smiled warmly at her. "What's your poison?" he asked, indicating her cup.
