X-Men: Shadowcat, OT Polaris
After the ceiling opened up and unleashed hell down upon Storm, Kitty scrambled back up to her feet and phased her hand, quickly sliding it through the gate in an attempt to short-circuit it. Hearing the sparks of electricity, she narrowed her eyes and reached farther. Storm's bloody hand was within inches and milliseconds. Then ground started to open. Kitty lost her footing and had to stumble backward. The space between the two widened even further when the woman started to fall. Storm made an order.
"No, Storm, we -" She stopped, hearing her comm crackle and Storm's voice calmly reporting - and she stopped herself from starting again when she saw the comm fall down in the pit. It really was hell. For a moment, she glanced up and saw the former X-Man running, but didn't have more time to disapprove before Storm caught her attention and told her again. "I'll be back soon," she promised, proud of herself for her decisiveness and turned before she could watch Storm let go. As hard as it was to watch one of her mentors fall into a trap, it was worse to watch them do it on purpose, even if it was for the best.
Phasing quickly through the walls, she kept an eye up for the infamous red light, just waiting for the floor to fall out from underneath her. She could avoid darts, avoid the gate, but the ground.. She would be fucked. Storm would be, too. She retraced their steps to the main hallway, knowing that would be the only path that would be safe, and when she caught the sight of green hair turning a corner, slid to a stop and changed directions.
"Polaris! Storm's been caught in a trap," she called after her, and once she caught up, added, "She's gone. And the Brotherhood's here." She decided not to add that they didn't help. Of course they wouldn't. Kitty had done pretty much the same thing as he did - turn the other way and run. Hers might have been for more altruistic motivations, but she wouldn't pretend to know why he did it.
