"Oh, but they love it," Wisdom shot back with a confiding smirk when she chided him for abusing the Jamies. He kept his cool when he noticed Lila checking him out, but his face lit up all the same. This night held promise, he could sense it. Little did he know the night would eventually take a turn for the bizarrely unexpected, but that wasn't going to happen for a good long while yet.
"I've always thought so," he replied to the comment about her being an underground celebrity. "But that seems to be what all the cool kids are calling it these days." It was in fact what it had always been used to describe someone who was well known in select circles, but outside of the mainstream pop culture, but Pete was sure Lila already knew that, and he wasn't stupid enough to contradict the pretty bird who was showing an appreciation for his interest.
"Me? Oh, this and that. You know, Englishman in exile, persecuted for being a dirty mutie. It's a boring sob story, innit? I try to make meself useful to the old professor who runs this quaint manor, and all that. Although, honestly, I don't know why everyone calls him professor. I've yet to see him teach any classes, and as far as I know he was only a lecturer at Empire State University for all of five minutes a decade ago or so." Pete could ramble with the best of them, especially when it came to dissembling and driving the conversation away from what he truly did for the Haven. Lila would probably get little more than vague replies or outright lies until Pete learned she was actually a teleporter, which was always in high demand.
