Re: Rictor & Shatterstar
"Whatever happened, somebody screwed up, but it wasn't us," Shatterstar replied. He felt no pleasure in the fact, having merely said it out loud to calm Rictor's guilt. He may have overreacted earlier when he snapped at his teammate, but he was at least correct in his assessment that Rictor fudged his attack on his opponent. This was something else. Whomever had allowed themselves to be seen and failed to disable the guards before they were shot at was responsible for those blasted alarms blaring now. Not Rictor. He may have disabled the automatic alarms, but any security guard could still manually hit that switch. "Keep going, I'll cover you," he called out as they raced upstairs one level. Fortunately, it would take some time for reinforcements to arrive. There couldn't be many more guards left on site. This wasn't exactly a high security building if they used commercial security instead of Sentinel troops to guard it. Still, the plan had been to avoid any undue attention.
"We are compromised," Star barked into his throat mike, stating the obvious. "All teams complete mission and report as soon as clear! Countdown override at all clear. Repeat! Countdown override at all clear!" he growled, clearly unhappy with the proceedings. Forget twenty minutes, time for Plan B. As soon as his people were out of the warehouse he was remotely setting off the charges.
He was grateful that Rictor kept his cool, and took the initiative to start on one side of the room. Not that he didn't expect it of him. He was just feeling edgier than usual, and was perhaps not expecting the best from his teammates. He was about halfway down his first aisle when something occurred to him. Excalibur was on duty tonight, working the information network angle while they did the physical deed.
"Rictor! Try contacting Excalibur on your comm, see if they can divert some of the heat off of us! Police and Fire Department. If they can feed them false information that should buy us enough time to be done and get out without any more witnesses." He never stopped doing what he was doing. They were literally against the clock here, so he would keep going until they were finished with the room.
