The signals the older man were sending were actually quite confusing to him. Everything in the way Logan spoke, stood, in his scent...they all screamed anger, contained violence, the potential for blood and death. But the man continued to pursue talk instead of action, had made no move towards actual physical violence. Nik was puzzled, and the flick of his ears, pricking forward then laying back a bit once more, reflected this. After a moment the man would resume his crouch, head tilted as he just look at Logan.
Still, he'd answer the question slowly, the growl at least having left his tone. "I was out hunting. He and Storm interrupted me, and there was a tense moment. I then invited them to share my kill. He declined, then began to complain about my nudity. It escalated from there...I do not recall how, but he began insulting humans. When I reminded him that we all came from humans, including my family, he challenged me. I accepted." He stopped there, trying to think how to explain what happened next. Really, even he didn't understand all that had gone on.
The creature shook his head for a moment, a strangely human gesture on such a form, before digging his claws into the ground beneath him. It was an idle gesture of frustration, as he continued. "I merely pinned him. The goal was to make a point, nothing more. He struggled and attacked, though. And...something happened. I do not know what, but my instincts to dominate and win overrode my caution. It was an accident...he jerked, drew blood on me, and I tightened my jaws..." A low sound there, but not a growl. More a whine of pain than anything else. "I swear, I did not intend to kill him. My control is better than such a thing, or so I had thought. Still, it is my responsibility. I panicked and ran." Nik stopped there, feeling nothing else needed to be said. What else could he say? 'I'm sorry' was a hollow, empty thing when held up to the death of a loved one.
