Pete snorted and grinned with true mirth at being called on his bull. He liked that Jamie was smart enough to get his obtuse humor, as well as intelligent enough not to take Pete's acerbic variety of wit personally. He truly admired the man's intelligence, not that he would ever utter such words out loud. Wisdom respected Jamie's wish to let others think he was just an average guy, but he was well aware of his background and accomplishments from his interview and his own investigations of his agents. Besides, he genuinely liked the guy.
"E-e-eugh," Wisdom voiced, half laughing. He gave Jamie a grimace and an exaggerated shudder when talk of the dupe turned to sexual innuendo. Then again, it was his own fault, wasn't it? He had started it, after all. He could dish it out, and so now he had to take it. All fun and games, right? But then Jamie threw in that last strangely possessive jab about snogging females, and Wisdom felt a sudden shift in his perception. Suddenly, his eyes darted sideways and he was looking at his budding friend as a man.
So wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers. Well, actually yeah, I'd kick anyone out of bed for that, no matter how fetching... Whoa! Slow down, lad. He's slightly knackered and he doesn't know what he's saying. Right. Anyroad... no way, he thought to himself, a sickly little grin frozen on his face. Of course, he had an unflappable reputation to uphold, so he bounced back brilliantly and promptly shot back, accusingly, "Ha! I see no ring on my finger!"
In any case, he couldn't deny that last little shove made his body react in ways it had no business reacting. "You will do no such thing! We don't need any more of those dupes of yours gallivanting around doing God knows what!" he uttered firmly, realizing he did protest too much. O, Jamie. Jamie, don't do this to me, mate.
He kept chuckling and made as if to shove back, but all he really did was reach out a hand to possibly steady Jamie if he needed it, since it had looked to him like he'd teetered a bit while reaching the door. He stopped himself from actually touching Jamie this time. The very thought set his teeth on edge, but not in a bad way, which was why it was a bad thing. If Jamie hit something, and that randy dupe came out, Wisdom thought... Why, nothing! He was the sober one, he thought to himself. He was Jamie's boss, and he would bloody damn well act like it. No inappropriate shenanigans!
Of course, no sooner had he thought that than Jamie gave him the 'I'm watching you' sign, so Pete did the mature thing and... stuck his tongue out at him. It was all he could do not to groan at himself and facepalm right then and there. When Jamie finally left his room, Pete felt a little bowled over. He shut the door and literally let his forehead bump into it. "Idiot," he told himself, and bumped the door again. He turned around, leaning his back against the closed door and wearing a pained scowl. What the hell just happened? he asked himself. One minute they were just being themselves, teasing in a completely innocent manner. Getting their bromance on, as Network had said once. Then the next... Jamie's body had been quite invitingly firm next to his. So bad. So very, very bad. He didn't need to be thinking of one of his operatives that way. He really didn't.
