Done with the quality time hand-holding, Wisdom smirked up at Jamie and patted his cheek before moving away. He made a big show of cringing when his mate accused him of having a heart, complete with tilted head and one eye pinched shut. "Aw, bugger off! Bloody beast thinks he owns me, more like. I suffer him as a favor to a friend. Don't get any ideas," he protested with an uncaring shrug. All part of said show. He was glad for Jamie bringing up the subject of John Maddox again.
Wisdom resumed studying Jamie's body language as he spoke, not quite sure if he should be worried about this. He really didn't need yet another team member compromised by their personal entanglements, he thought, thinking of the necessity of benching Ghost for this upcoming operation. He was sure the kid would be none too happy about it at all, but he had brought it on himself with his erratic behavior. Going around taking pictures of naked Havenites and babbling about secret teams was bad enough, but moping and keeping to himself or quartered up in his room weren't things that inspired confidence in his mental health either. If only he could literally read his mind and see what the hell he was in fact thinking... but the good old professor X would not hear of it. Sometimes Charles Xavier drew his lines haphazardly at best, as far as Pete could discern. Some breaches of ethics were okay, but not others. Well, he shouldn't be surprised, seeing as he himself had lived his whole life in shades of gray.
"Don't worry about it overmuch, lad. Of course, you know I'm going to have to give you a formal write-up," he said very seriously. After letting that hang in the air for a long, awkward moment, he grinned. "For imbibing and not sharing!" he announced, snickering at whatever expression he might have gotten from the faux rebuke, or at nothing at all. Pete wasn't above laughing at his own jokes. Of course, he was indeed concerned about this becoming an issue for Jamie, but he wanted to ease him even further to see what else the man might say to give himself away.
