If Rictor couldn't tell by Jean-Paul's thick accent that he was a native speaker and not simply trying to be impressive… well, it was a good thing Rictor still had his looks. Jean-Paul's spanish was rudimentary but he had a vague idea of what had been said. He decided to ignore the remark for now, although he certainly wouldn't forget it, nor who said it. It wasn't the worst thing anyone had ever said about him, but Jean-Paul wasn't the type to forget a slight against him, no matter how small.
He stepped slowly down to ground level, looking thoughtful, and turned so that he was half-facing Rictor. "I'm sure you have heard the cliche' that cigarettes will kill you. Frankly, I am not certain many of us are destined for deaths as slow as cancer." The comment probably seemed out of the blue, but Jean-Paul had recently read an article about groups of people who seemed to think the way to solve the world's problems was by rounding up every last mutant and killing them.
