She needed to stay alive for herself. Who: Blindfold When: Saturday afternoon Where: An MLF facility What: Blindfold tried to evade the MLF and ended up in their custody. Life has not been terribly good, but she is glad to be alive and planning to keep it that way until help comes.
When I get out of here, everything will be fine. Ruth had lost count of how many times she said that particular phrase mentally. It didn't really matter how many times she had said it, she was probably going to repeat it again sometime in the next few minutes. Her telepathy didn't extend beyond the dimensions of the room. It was essentially a prison cell with a metal toilet in one corner and a bed that rolled into the wall leaving behind a smooth surface. Pretty sophisticated for a terrorist group. Then again, from what she'd been up against over the past few days (she wasn't sure how many days she'd been there), they were actually pretty dang sophisticated.
The P.A. buzzed open a line. "Would you like to tell me what I want to know now, ma'am?" The same voice she'd heard since coming in. It was never anyone different. Whether that meant she was only being looked after by one person or not, Ruth wasn't entirely sure. What she was sure of though was the voice over the PA was probably the same person pushing the button that made her whole body nearly convulse. The first time he'd shocked her, Ruth had stood still wondering why she'd been stuck in a room with no shoes. It simply hadn't dawned on her. He was asking questions about her precognition and she'd just been too stunned to truly respond.
Then the shock. It was a mild tingle in her feet. The second one was sharper and after a moment, Ruth truly understood what was going on. Everything in the room was metal. The bed only appeared when they wanted it to, then it rolled away, leaving her with nothing but the metal floor and the man on the P.A. They didn't talk, but she could practically feel him watching, years of practice had made her sensitive to the feeling of observation.
Should have gone home when I had the chance. Her last communication to Network had been that she didn't want to come directly back to the Haven because that meant possibly leading the MLF and their agents back to the Haven. Not to say they probably weren't aware of it, but Excalibur's connection to the Haven was unknown. Ruth intended to keep it that way. So rather than going home, she'd disappeared into New York and eventually got caught.
In over her head did not even begin to describe where she was. There was no communication out of this room, of any kind. Video surveillance was probably there, but that didn't help her. Ruth was not a computer whiz in any way. In truth, she outright hated computers though she kept that thought to herself around Network. The other girl would have probably considered it sacrilege or something. What she wouldn't have given to be a little more physically developed to be able to do something about the door, or technologically saavy enough to send a message through the video feed.
Well, neither of those were options.
The shock to her feet made her yelp and suddenly go back to thinking about her immediate issues.
"I asked a question." His tone was deceptively mild.
"Ain' got no answer fo' ya. Go soak ya 'ead." Ruth let her accent thicken intentionally making herself harder to understand. Sure, she could have played it safe, but she couldn't make her precognition come on command. They didn't know that, so she had to keep them on the hook. As long as they thought they could get her to do what they wanted, they'd keep her alive. It meant enduring electroshock therapy, but she'd take that over a bullet to the head or a bomb strapped to her chest any day.
Besides, she needed to stay alive because Wisdom wouldn't be too happy if she managed to get herself killed on her first real mission.
