Polaris kept her own counsel as the others decided to let Rictor do the honors, but she was secretly relieved that Havok agreed. She wasn't sure just how stable Alex was today. He was never the easiest man to read, but since Gabriel had died it was as if Lorna simply couldn't figure him out.
It felt as if there was a bunch of stuff unspoken between them. It was truly a load of very confusing thoughts and feelings, and it didn't help a bit that she was in denial about half of them. In any case, this wasn't the time to sort it out. For right now, it was enough that Havok was being a good leader and delegating. Had she been able to read Rictor's thoughts, she would have agreed that she wasn't sure either whether Alex wouldn't accidentally bring down half the block with his power. He was holding so much anger and grief inside him.
It was good that they were on a mission, though. The rescue had given them something to do, a purpose, if only for the time being. It was better than blindly training every day without any immediate goals. Everyone was kind of restless, she thought. Or maybe she was just projecting, and it was just her who was restless, but she doubted it. She was pretty sure that at least Alex was right there with her too.
She'd waited for the go, and then Ric did his thing. Her magnetic abilities had already cased out all things metal in the structure before them, so when the wall broke down, she was ready for it.
"Watch out," Lorna called out to Match, waving her hands outwards as she magnetically took hold of the welded wire reinforcement mesh within the slabs of concrete that didn't turn to dust and cleared the debris to make a fairly clean pathway for the extraction. "Okay, good to go," she said, glancing over at the team leader to see if he was going to call out any orders before they went in.
