"Ah think we have one, deep down," one of the dupes chimed up in a thick drawl that really was more Mississippi than it was Kentucky. That caused another dupe to break out laughing so hard he doubled himself over... which caused him to collide with one of the other dupes and spawned another. Jamie sighed but kept his comments to himself. He really did need to make some of his dupes wear helmets.
"Well," he offered with a small, sympathetic smile. "Farm life was chaotic and violent, too. I mean, ever have a calf born with a big belly? Or a predator get into the chicken coop?" He shook his head with a grim expression. "Not pretty, not pretty at all. Things are different here, maybe a slightly different scale, but under it all..." The chaos and death was everywhere, there was just no escaping it.
Her embarrassment only worked to delight all the Jamies, both Prime and his dupes chiming in now. "So modest! Better be careful or you might be signing a few dozen autographs for me." "Make mine out to 'highest Ebay bidder.'" "I want a picture! I want a picture!"
"...Of course she's not a celeb," the newly spawned dupe spoke up in a monotone voice. "We never get to meet anyone famous. Why would we? It's not like we're anyone important..." He heaved a dramatic sigh, his attitude drawing wide-eyed stares from all the others.
"Oh not him again," the most energetic dupe moaned. "He always ruins our buzz." "See? I don't eve like me." The sad eyed dupe turned to Maya as his shoulders slouched. "You know, we have to wear this suit every single day or we'll spawn dozens of dupes on every impact without meaning to... but the really sad thing? We don't even mind it because we're so indecisive we can't stand the thought of picking out a different shirt every day. It's just too much--"
"Oookay." Jamie Prime absorbed the depressed dupe as the remaining Jamies cheered. He turned an apologetic look to Faith. "He comes out every so often. He's, ah, depressed would be the best way to put it."
