It had taken a lot of convincing, cajoling and downright intimidating that left not a small amount of bruises and broken bones along the way, but Logan had been able to track Karr down. Most of the broken bones had been as a result of his finding out that Karr had actually been running with the accursed Mutant Liberation Front. He was going to hide that boy of his, he'd thought more than once.
The plan had been for him to find where Karr was holed up in, report back to James and do this proper, but he'd caught Karr leaving one of the addresses he'd procured and decided to follow him. He figured that, if he had an opening, he might as well take it. He didn't miss the newly acquired attitude that went beyond his boy's usual cocky stance. It set his teeth on edge, because he'd learned it from all the wrong people, he was sure. Shadowing Karr was too easy, Logan thought, disgruntled and concerned. If this was Creed, Karr would have never seen him coming. The urge to just grab the boy and drag him back to the Haven was overwhelming. The scream took the decision away from him.
Logan could scarcely blame Karr for what he'd done. His heart was in the right place, at least. He wasn't going to even try and deny that watching and hearing that terrified girl being manhandled by those Sentinels made him want to do exactly the same thing his son had done. But there was a right and a wrong way of doing even this, and Karr was reckless in the extreme.
Mumbling a string of curses under his breath, Logan sprang into action. He was far enough away that he couldn't reach them before the bullet hit his son in the face. That's when he started seeing red. Unlike Karr, however, Logan leapt out of the shadows and dispatched the remaining two Sentinels before the one on the radio could even finish his call. It was fast, merciless and clean. Surgical almost. There was no bloodlust, because there was no time for it. Even with his feral instincts, Logan was too much of a soldier to be distracted from the fact that they had to leave the scene fast.
Logan turned towards the girl, who was screaming and cowering on the floor. She didn't know if she should be more scared of the ferals than she had been of the Sentinels, and Logan didn't blame her. He wiped the blood off his hands after putting away his claws and grabbed her hard by the arms. She yelped loudly but shut up when he shook her. "Snap out of it, darlin'. You're okay now. You're okay. You don't go back home, you understand? They know where you live. You go here," he said, pulling a card out of his pocket and shoving it into hers. "You go to that address. It's a safehouse for mutants. You tell 'em Logan sent you. They'll help you. You got that? Nod if you understand me!" he said urgently.
"Good. Now go on. Git!" he said in his usual gruff manner. He still had Karr to deal with. He could smell his boy was in full aggressive mode, and might not be inclined to listen to reason. In fact, he wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned around to find him gnawing on one of the freaking Sentinels right now. He had to not worry about the girl. She would hopefully find the address, and they'd calm her down and ship her up to the Haven. The mutant underground railroad was booming lately, especially after the truth about the Cure came out. It had been that crazy Brit, Wisdom, who'd set it in motion, and who provided all Haven field operatives the cards to give out. The address changed often, for security reasons.
