Ruth's CD player had been playing a soft Jazz set when things suddenly started to go rather haywire. First a wave of static so strong she could feel it prickling along her skin, raising the hairs on her arms and neck. The sound was familiar, in an odd way.
Then there was that voice again. The voice was certainly familiar. She had been talking to Chamber the first time she heard it. Now it was back again. Whether or not anyone else had heard it was a question, but if her radio had picked up it, most everything else should have. After all, the CD player was not the most sensitive device in the Haven. There had to be dozens of other things affected by this whole thing.
The music came back as if nothing had happened, building up to a swell rather like a crashing ocean wave and then dying back down more quietly. The blind woman simply sat there for a long moment, looking as if she were caught in contemplation. Finally, she swung her legs off the bed, fitted her feet into her shoes and decided now might be a good time to go for a walk. It would be better if she just took a minute to clear her head. There was probably something there she could work with, but she wasn't sure what it was. Not yet anyway. There was always the chance that something would come to her, but there was no guarantee.
