Are we done? That was the question, wasn't it. Was she done? There was another of those long moments of silence as she considered the answer, before another of those shivers ran through her. "Yeah, I think....I think we're done." Another of those hard swallows before she could force the next words out. "Will you take care of Buster? I don't want him go to the pound, and he loves you as much as I do..."
It was the uncertainty that was the worst right now, so finally she just blurted out the question. "When? I mean...now, or do you want to wait?" Kira knew she'd never be ready, no matter how long or short the wait. Still, she'd rather know when it was going to happen. A fact that was evidenced by the rather tight grip she had on Pete's hand at the moment.
At least Pete seemed to be doing a little better. She knew he was probably faking it, but for the moment she was grateful for at least one of them seeming calm, because she was scared out of her mind.
