Pete actually voiced a shuddery, disgusted sound as he stepped around a few of those reanimated animals. They were somehow even more creepy than their humanoid counterparts. "Aw, hell," he muttered, but then he heard Kira speak.
"Oh. Oh! The bloody clearing over by the bleeding log, is it? Well that clears it right up, doesn't it?" Pete bitched under his breath as he ran and weaved through the walking carcasses. The stench was pretty unforgettable, he was sure. He did, however, see her waving her hand at him as he followed the general direction of the voice. He started to smash down the zombies closer to his friend and shooting out the heat knives from his hands to cut down their extremities. He had really wanted to use the flamethrower on them, but there was too much wood around for it to be anything like safe. He was also pretty certain that if he failed to immobilize the creatures before doing so, all he'd achieve would be a horde of flaming zombies spreading fiery death along with the terror they already carried.
It had sounded like a good idea at the time. He dropped the heavy flamethrower unceremoniously and let fly with a semiautomatic. He immediately wished he hadn't. There were too many of them, and they were too ripe. The last time, the zombies had been of older bodies, not so recently dead, and the smell hadn't been quite so bad. Pete finally lost the battle with his gorge and upchucked over to the side where he stood. That's when he remembered another toy he'd carried with him. After the terrorist attacks on several Cure Distribution Centers, someone (possibly Xavier) had suggested to Forge that he should make a power dampener device to externally control mutant power surges such as those caused by the Legacy virus. Pete had asked for one of the prototypes. Forge had made it in the shape of a collar of sorts. He tossed it at Kira.
"Quick, put that on!" he barked, resuming the task of holding back zombies. He could have sworn he'd felt an undead squirrel slither past him between his legs.
