It had been a long few weeks for Polaris. She'd spent a lot of time working until she was too tired to think at night. Too tired to dream. Because when she didn't work herself into an exhausted stupor, she thought about a lot of things she should not be thinking about. Or rather, one thing. An all consuming one thing.
Much as she wanted to deny it, she couldn't. She couldn't stop thinking about Pietro. And not the way she should be thinking about him.
As a brother, damn it all to Hell.
She'd spent as much time as she could around Gabe and Alex. It helped distract her from her own shit, and, sick as it might be, it helped her not feel like her own family life was so completely and utterly fucked up. Just slightly fucked.
She was going to be teaching a self-defense class soon for the female residents of Haven, that would take her mind off things, too, but even that couldn't completely distract her right now. So she'd gone to the gun range to practice.
Guns had posed a particular problem to Polaris, what with her powers of magnetism. She could, she had found, stop a speeding bullet, it she saw it coming, but that didn't take fine control, just powerful shields. What she wanted to do now was much more complex. She wanted to redirect the bullets without them losing force. Around corners. Over walls. Out of line of sight....
So she was just as glad she was along at the gun range when she arrived and started breaking down her Acolyte kit. She couldn't take chances, she had to make sure everything worked perfectly before she started, otherwise around her things would come apart. There was already enough metal lying around to make it hard to work without cleaning up first. She had to be sure everything she brought with her was in top working order.
