Who: Velouria OTA What: Doing some musing When: Late, around sunset Where: Haven, Spuyten Dyvil Cove Warnings: Language, mostly
It was odd. During her twenty-something years on this earth Velouria had failed to ever witness a true sunset. Until now, that is. Seated on the ground, toes wiggling slightly, she watched as the orange orb slipped ever so gently below the cloudy horizon. How could she have missed something so iconic for so long? Taking another puff of the quickly dwindling cigarette she'd lit up just moments ago she let the smoke drift lazily past her slightly chapped lips. This was the best place she could think of where she could get some honest to god solace. And with the way things were going 'alone time' is exactly what she craved.
Her parents had been fighting again according to her sister. It served as a reminder of how much things had changed since the day the flare hit. Even though it seemed like so long ago to her the fact was she and her family could remember it like it was just yesterday; along with most of the population. Having a mutant for a daughter was something they tried to adjust to. And for the most part they did so wonderfully. Or so it seemed. Her mother still worried about her daughter's future immensely. Their talks over the phone usually ended in tearful pleas to come back home and be amongst those who loved her. And at times, looking around at her current lifestyle, she seriously considered doing so. But in the end she always stayed put. Haven was good for her. She just wished her family could see that.
Taking another long drag the cigarette came to the end of its life span and with a grunt she flicked it away. So what if she was littering? Not like anyone was around to give a shit. One of the perks of teleporting way out here was that no one was likely to find her. She wasn't up for much human interaction at the moment. With a curse and a bitter chuckle she dug out another cigarette, lit it up, and exhaled forcefully. She felt sadness over the fractured familial ties that caused her parents to quarrel. She felt anger over her mother putting her in such an awkward position. She felt... She felt... so tired. Another drag was taken as she felt her eyes sting with the tell-tale sign of tears. Fuck! She wasn't going to sit here and cry about it. That wasn't her. Wiping her eyes she tried to clear her blurred vision, cursing continually each time the tears reformed. "Goddamnit." She swore in a shaky voice, face reddening. "Stop. Just stop this pathetic shit. What the hell is wrong with you?!"
