Ciri stumbled into the street, unbalanced as she had previously been on a horse and now she wasn't. Her boots hit the ground and she caught her weight on her hands, sword hanging in her peripheral vision where it was strapped against her back.
The first thing she noticed was that it was hot. Much hotter than it had been in White Orchard where she'd just come from. She looked around her immediate area as she got to her feet, brushed her knees off and flicked her hair back out of her face. The scar on her cheek - though faded - was more prominent than she would have liked. SHe’d had years to get used to it, the people who had given it to her were long since dead, some of them by her blade and some by Eredin, but there was a lingering bitterness that she held towards them for the fact that they’d injured her so and that no one had been able to, with their magic, fix it for her. Not even the aen sidhe or the aen elle. Not any of the sorceresses she knew, nor the sorcerers she’d crossed paths with.
Not that most of them had been interested in her looks. Or preserving them.
A vehicle - metal and on wheels - zoomed past her and she moved back out of the way, hearing a screeching and a honking sound. She’d been somewhere like this before, only briefly, when she’d been on the run from the Wild Hunt. Cars, she thought they were called. Modes of transportation that belched fumes and ran on horsepower without horses. She hadn’t spent a lot of time there, so she didn’t know much, but she’d known enough that when an Official turned up with a small device and gave her a very brief ‘this does this’, she didn’t find herself completely perplexed.
That being said, having a small communication device - which was far smaller than any megascope she’d ever seen and presumably ran on the same kind of invisible power as the lights attached to poles in the street - and a vague understanding of what to do with it wasn’t quite enough to assuage her confusion or concern at being here.
She’d closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, tried to summon her own abilities to take her home. She knew she hadn’t teleported herself here because she hadn’t felt the pressure in her temples or felt the rushing pop in her ears. She hadn’t felt the cold that was associated with teleportation or world jumping in her world. So something had pulled her here.
But it couldn’t keep her here. Ciri was uncontainable.
She touched her temples, the device secured in her pocket and thought about home.
Cold. Darkness. A ringing in her ears. A pop in her temple.
She burst into re-existence in Aisle 5 in the grocery store, surrounded by tinned goods, a display of which went clattering to the ground from the force of her appearing. So there she stood with her sword diagonally across her back, feeling lost and frustrated.
