I did have respect for them, once. But it's kind of easy to be impressed by something abstract and ancient that doesn't exist anymore. Before you see that the reality of it doesn't live up to the legend. The Jedi were all long gone by the time I was born, but they tried to rebuild. Of course, nobody involved in the rebuild was there for the original, so there's nobody who remembers their mistakes enough to learn from them. I think I might be the only person who actually read most of the ancient texts. And I got an earful about "conquering curiosity," so I'm guessing that learning from the past is, if not entirely verboten, then certainly frowned upon. Or maybe he just didn't want me, specifically, to read them.
I guess I've had a long time to think about it. And just enough time to stop caring what everyone thinks of what I have to say about it. No more secrets, no more spin. We practice absolute candor in this-- hermitage, or wherever I'm going to end up.
