Times like this were the times when Caleb missed Frumpkin the most. Right now would be the perfect time to summon his cat and pet him, to listen to him purr and have that ease his stress away. But he didn't have Frumpkin anymore. He didn't have much. He had a drink, and he had a seat in a bar, and he had a few pieces of gold that didn't work here, he had this device that brought him messages, he had a key. He had his spell book. And that was it.
So far nothing made sense, and he didn't know whether this were real (pinching his arm had hurt, so that was a suggestion that it was) or whether he was in some kind of hallucination. But if that were the case then these were not the kinds of people he would dream up. The only thing that even suggested this were a dream was that Molly, real Molly, was here.
And he was so, so tired. He had been so busy recently, he had relived his trauma so many times and gone to bed for a few hours only to wake up to relive it again that now he was just sitting and waiting his tiredness sank in. His brain was still going a million miles an hour, things where still whizzing by, and though Caleb had closed his eyes tight it never stopped.
He was glad Beau was here. Of all the people in all the world he trusted her, she wouldn't give him any bullshit.
Had it really only been two months? It felt like half a lifetime since they had fought Vokodo. They had no idea what lay ahead of them then. Caleb didn't want to burden her with the knowledge, he just wanted to make sure- he needed her to know why he might be strange about Molly. And he wanted her to know what happened to her. And him. And Trent.
Taking a deep breath, Caleb started to count again. He would make it all the way to zehn this time.
