Kore casually, and single-handedly, browsed through the clothing rack - her other hand holding her vanilla Chai latte so she could take the occasional sip. It was an afternoon of shopping with Eros which.. she had no doubt would turn into evening if she didn't find anything decent she liked. Eros was so body positive and such an uplifting friend - but Kore couldn't help but feel that everything literally looked better on the mannequins.
When she finished flipping through the rack of dresses that would probably make her look like an old maid or a hussy, she wandered over towards her winged best friend. "Soo..." the goddess said with an innocent little smile, leaning on a pillar that had a full body mirror hung on the side. "How are things going?"
Unlike Kore, Eros had a pile of selected clothes already; tops and shorts and a sparkly number he was sure would look uncomfortably good on his mother, a literal gold mine of options just carefully collected and piled up in a netted basket someone had shoved at him after he'd piled yet more clothes at a desk. "Amazing!" Shopping was something Eros was just naturally good at, even as he flipped through graphic tank tops with amusing decals on them, he knew any of them would do, but few were really jump at him as worth buying.
"Where are all yours? Have you given them to an assistant?" He had expected her to have dozens of cute dresses, something slinky maybe, to show off around Hades, some of those adorable little playsuits maybe.
Even if she was more used to spending money and shopping for herself - Eros would still be incredibly more adept at the hobby than her. He had an eye for it, and the confidence. Honestly she was better off letting him loose, so to speak, and picking things out for her than attempting it on her own. "Umm... yes?" she half smile-cringed, as she was a terrible liar.
"Would you believe me if I said I'm better as a last-minute shopper?" Kore asked teasingly. Though it did hold some truth, when pressured she could easily just grab what caught her attention and then she didn't have time to second-guess herself.
Clicking his tongue lightly, Eros smirked at Kore while shaking his head, "Gaia but you've got no poker face," she was too open and honest for that kind of thing really. Taking his own sip from his Matcha green tea, Eros turned his attention from the tank tops to shift his sights onto ensuring Kore's wardrobe got the Spring Makeover it needed.
"Last minute is no good if you want to knock a certain Lord of the Underworld off his feet on a daily basis." What the hold up was, Eros did not know. Given his penchant for love and lust, he knew both were present between sweet Kore and his near idiotic great-Uncle right now. "Let's start with some dresses, yeah?"
Kore poked her tongue out at Eros -like the mature, serious Goddess of Spring that she was- before offering a bright smile. At least with Eros at the helm of her wardrobe, she knew she couldn't embarrass herself based on aesthetic alone. No - she would just have to deal with the embarrassment that seemed to come naturally when she was around Hades. Which, Eros bringing up the particular King made her cheeks flush faintly. "Mhm," she agreed quickly before taking a drink - if only to mask her blush.
"What I meant though was... you know, how are you and Psyche doing?" Kore asked, bouncing lightly on her heels as they ventured over toward the dresses again.
As Eros slid a few of the summer dresses, his hand stalled a little as Psyche was mentioned. "Fine, we're fine, you know, it's..." He really should've known better than to mentally throw stones given his entire situation. "A few dates, it's nice, going... slow." Painfully slow, if he were honest, but he also had to remember that Psyche had choices to make.
For all that Eros had forgiven her for her reaction, aware enough now that his own actions weren't exactly trust building, he wasn't sure where that left them—he loved her, of course he did, but he was also acutely aware of the pain that her betrayal caused. Justified or not. "I think she's working for mom again."
It was sort of a weird comfort to hear Eros' voice not as sure as it usually was as he answered. It made her feel a little better about her situation with Hades, but it also caused her brow to furrow ever so slightly in response. "Slow can be good.. especially in this town," she insisted - still glad to hear that things were progressing, regardless of the speed.
"And that's good right? I mean, any support from your mom is definitely an accomplishment," the goddess said before pausing and reaching out to touch the fabric of a dress. "You know, I think Psyche feels a bit like how I felt when I first started staying with Artie? Just.. unsure of where she fits. I think once she finds her people, everything else will click into place," Kore reasoned. Though, honestly, she still felt out of place sometimes and she considered Eros her people.
Slow could be good, and Eros understood a whole lot better the people who took their time with these things; he still felt a little guilty for all the random heartache he'd caused people for amusement after getting a sense of what it felt like. "I think she likes it," but he was content to focus on other aspects of Psyche's adaptation into free life. "Purpose, at least, I mean. I know it's been a struggle for her."
Eros hadn't fully comprehended how she'd just given up one life of confinement for another until she'd explained it—yes, Eros had afforded her more to do and he'd cared exceptionally deeply for her, but she'd still largely been a prisoner because of the nature of her being on Olympus being highly illegal.
Trying to shift attention, Eros held a dress up over Kore's frame, nodding slightly with a grin, "Do I get to ask about you and Hades now?"
Kore offered him a warm smile at the very blatant hint that he and Psyche were more on the same page now that they had time in Night Vale. Not that she had had any doubts that Eros would find a way to talk to her; Kore's short time hanging out with Psyche and talking over the network made it was easy to see they both had to clear the air a bit. "It's nice to have your own terms," the goddess nodded softly, still smiling.
When the dress was held up, Kore's smile was replaced with an exaggerated pouty face and coupled with an equally dramatic pose. Until Eros mentioned Hades and her posture straightened instantly and her cheeks flushed with warmth.
Kore pursed her lips momentarily as she looked at him. "It's going alright.. I think he's having a hard time adjusting, as well," she laughed weakly. Plus there was the whole future-alternate kids thing they had yet to discuss at length. "It's kind of weird knowing that things obviously work out okay but still being worried you'll screw it up somehow," Kore admitted. "It'd be nice to spend more time together, though."
The alternate universe things was still weird for Eros, and he was impressed with how well Kore was taking it, because he knew he'd not deal with anything like a alternate universe child of his popping up—the mere notion was terrifying. But obviously, Kore's huge heart and capacity to care just made her more likely to love regardless.
"King of the Underworld, in the desert, with no souls to direct. Wonder why he's struggling?" Eros could understand it, but he was also a little annoyed that Hades' crappy attempts to relax were affecting Kore too. He just wanted her to be happy. "Maybe the beauty of Spring will coax him out of his shell?"
Maybe he could convince his mom to go hell at Hades about neglecting love...
She couldn't help but laugh softly at the way that he worded it - all the while putting the dress he'd held up into her basket because she liked it. And if she didn't put it in, he certainly would have. "Everyone adjusts at their own speed," Kore shrugged softly. On one hand, she got it, she truly did - and she appreciated the space Hades allotted. However... Kore would rather space from everything else and not him. This wasn't the Underworld, heck it wasn't even Olympus. The worry of what other gods and goddesses might think, or how it would affect work, was at the back of her mind.
It wasn't fair, to change the subject so abruptly, but in her defense Eros went and mentioned Spring. Kore bounced on her heels lightly. "Ohh, I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't made up my mind yet but I definitely want to do something nice for everyone."
She paused thoughtfully and smiled, somewhat distracted. "You know, Hades is the only one who has seen Spring how I do it.. before Mama fixed it all. It made me feel like I could actually be an Olympian one day. But no more hiding," Kore nodded definitively, grabbing another dress and holding it up - looking to Eros for judgement.
Adjustments were sometimes harder for people; Eros had gotten to the stage where he could flow with most things, and while he knew Kore was a major reason in why he was as settled as he was, it didn't hurt that Psyche and his Mother were there. He could have made friends elsewhere, he knew that, but it was just so much easier with Kore, given how close they were and how open he was with her.
The grin that split Eros' face was probably enough to demonstrate that he was fine with the subject change, that it was about time for them to talk about something less heavy or complicated. And the way that Kore lit up at the mere mention of Spring was enough to give Eros little butterflies in his tummy.
"I'm rather looking forward to it," Eros had been in the Mortal Realm enough to see how Demeter did Spring, and it was lovely, it was always so nice to just see all the flowers blooming and the scents that filled the air. He had a feeling that Kore might have a different approach than her mother. "This is why we need to get your Spring wardrobe nailed down. So you can flit around and make this place pretty." The idea that anything Kore did needed fixing was ridiculous though. "No more hiding, show off those amazing powers."
