RP: So, she had a job now ...
Who: Lily, open
What: Reading
Where: On a bench by a pond near the campus
When: Mid-afternoon
Warning: None
It was strange how certain innocuous events truly drove home the reality of situations. She'd been dealing with the abstract of "stuck here" ever since she'd arrived, but it wasn't until today, when she'd gone in for an interview and was hired at a small used bookstore that she truly realized she was stuck here.
That she wasn't going home. Not any time soon, at any rate.
She'd played with the idea of the paradox of her being here while people still remembered events that occurred after this point in her life, so clearly she wasn't missing, but at the same time, she had to be missing because she was here and couldn't be in both places.
She didn't think, anyway.
It really did make her head ache to consider it, so she simply dealt with the facts at hand. She was here, not home. No one could get her home - yet. She had to find means to live, and that meant a job, which she now had. She'd start on Monday.
Now she simply had to struggle with the concept of giving up on her 'former' life. To stop holding out hope that James would arrive. He might, but there was a very significant chance that he might not ... and she had to accept that.
So it was that Lily found herself in the shade of an oak tree, settled on a bench by a duck pond with a book open in her lap. She wasn't reading it though; emerald eyes were focused on the pond, the ducks, though she didn't really see them. Her mind was carefully working through her thoughts, ordering them in ways she could readily accept, though actual acceptance might be a long time in coming.
She was stuck here, and that was that.
